AITA for not letting my classmate work on me?

For context, I’m a beauty school student who just started school. After rolling around table to table I ended up landing a seat next to my classmate who was musty, and because of this everyone else avoided sitting next to her. I could smell past it considering it was summer and she’s currently pregnant.

Anyways, fast forward a few months she’s done a bunch of little things that are really annoying/disgusting. One day, I was running errands before school so I wore perfume on my normal clothes, a faint scent remained on my hair and neck, so when I’d move around I smelled like perfume even though I had changed into my school uniform. She proceeded to fart for the remainder of class. Anytime I wear my nice shoes to school, she steps on me on purpose. If I wear my beater shoes, her feet are nowhere to be found. She also gave me a uv lamp but the cord the lamp came with didn’t fit it. A few weeks ago our assignment was to practice acrylic nails on each other or the practice hand. She asked if I wanted acrylics, I said yes, thinking I’d end up with a full set by the end of class. We ran out of time, so she only did one hand. The next day she filed the same hand, but again we ran out of time. She asked me what I wanted for my design, brought in a couple colors for me to choose from and a couple charms I could look at, but never worked on my hand. Eventually I did my other hand and finished both hands.

Today we got a chance to work independently on each other once we got done with our main assignment. She finished slightly before me and when I got done she asked if I was done, so we could work on soaking off my nails. I cut them off and filed off the gel on them the day before. I feel when someone fucks you over not only once but twice, you just have to stop giving them the benefit of doubt and move along without them. I’m also really bad at saying no to people. I went to grab a couple things I needed and got to work. She started jumping in and I let her, and once again she just left the foils half opened. The one I did was the only one that soaked off easily, while the rest I had to apply over and over again. After 15 minutes I checked my foils and took as many layers as I could off. There are rules we aren’t allowed to work on ourselves but most people ignore and do it anyway. The teacher caught me eventually and you could see my table mate was visibly upset because I wouldn’t let her work on me. She got mad at me for ripping a layer of my own nail off because the nails she did were literally stuck onto my fingers. I eventually got everything off and cleaned my desk.

By the time we reached the end of class, she chose not to talk to me anymore. She then would not move once we reached the final part of class and blocked me into the corner of my side of the table. I was surprised, like why are you so mad I won’t let you work on my nails anymore? It’s my hand! Realistically if I had let her work on me today, I’d probably still have 1 or 2 nails on.

So AITA for not letting my classmate work on me?

  2. NTA. You are both there to learn the beauty trade and part of that is professionalism and client focus.

Your colleague’s inability or willingness to demonstrate those skills in class is not your problem. If no-one wants to work with her, it is for your trainer to deal with.

Move on and find others in your class to work with.
