I (23 F) saw a very clearly gay man on the train today. I’m assuming he was around my age (early to mid 20’s). He was wearing makeup, and feminine clothing, not overtly trans but just very in tune within his feminine side. I said his inner corner eyeshadow was beautiful, and asked him what the color was and his lip combo (straight men I’m sorry if this is confusing, all makeup terminology). And he stared at me as if I hate crimed him and went on a whole tangent that lasted 5 minutes about how straight women (I’m a feminine lesbian) objectify gay men and act like they’re automatically friends solely based on the fact that they’re gay. I never implied this, and was clearly confused but didn’t disagree or fight him – I just kinda shut down and didn’t respond. It was just an all around weird interaction and eventually I got off of the train without saying anything to disagree with him. But it was very awkward and everyone around us heard the conversation and how offended he was.
I just don’t understand how I could be wrong, but I did clearly offend him, so im asking if I’m the asshole here and how, so I know not to do anything offensive to others going forward? I’m just genuinely confused and kinda lost and would like some insight
