AITA lent money to 5 friends to cover a large purchase for group

1 doesn’t pay on time and usually doesn’t pay on time but gets annoyed if he doesn’t get paid for something on time when recovering his debts.

He didnt pay on time – said asking him to repay was intense – other friend agreed saying they’re not good with texts and responding on time

  1. INFO What are you asking here? Are you TA for asking for repayment from someone you know is a poor debtor? I think you are perhaps overly optimistic when you know not to take on debt for this person.

  2. You’re definitely NTA. If someone borrows money, they should expect to be reminded about paying it back. Saying you’re “bad at texting” but having time to argue about being asked to pay is wild. The double standard is the real issue, he expects people to pay him on time, but gets annoyed when the same standard is applied to him.

  3. NTA

You will never be the A H for asking someone to repay a debt. However, keep in mind, that if you loan money to friends, you should be prepared to lose both. Most “friends” don’t like when someone reminds them of a debt they owe. It might be the origin story for the phrase “but I thought we were friends, man”…

  4. He’s weaponizing social pressure through the other friend to make you feel guilty for collecting a legitimate debt. That’s a manipulation tactic. NTA, and the friend backing him up should stay out of financial arrangements they’re not part of.
