AITA: Is it wrong to report my neighbor for smoking on the daily and stinking up my apt?

My neighbor constantly smokes and makes my apartment smell terrible. We live in a smoke free Apartment and I wouldn’t mind if it was once in a while but it’s every day it’s driving me crazy. I don’t know what to do or even if I should do anything. I bought plug ins but it doesn’t help AT ALL. I also get severe migraines from constant strong smells. What do I do?

  1. I suffer from chronic migraine, and smells really trigger them, so I feel your pain. NTA. If your apartment complex is non-smoking, your neighbor is breaking the rules of their contract.

    Tell the landlord.

  2. NTA. People are allowed to ruin their own health but they still have to comply with regulations and respect other people in apartments. Report him (ideally anonymously) and move on.

  3. As a smoker myself NTA, I’m always considerate of where I awoke and who I’m around. If it’s no smoking go outside on the road not that hard. I do it at hotels all the time

  4. Report them. They know the rules and are counting on people being too polite or nice to narc on them. That’s how shitty people get away with doing shitty things

  5. You are renting a smoke free apartment because you don’t want to smell the smoke.

Contact management. Every single time you smell it, contact management. Your neighbor is a selfish asshole (just learned that J E R K is a banned word here) who knows that they are stinking up the place.

  6. First, make sure it’s actually them smoking. I once had a neighbor who kept accusing me of smoking and I never knew why, until one day I realized it was people smoking out below her window at night. Nevertheless, she never apologized and caused a lot of problems for me with the landlord that took a lot of time to be resolved.

If it is indeed your neighbor, then no, you’re NTA.

  7. NTA. It’s a lease violation and it’s negatively affecting you. As a chronic migraine sufferer myself, I sure as shit would be telling my landlord.

In the meantime, I suggest ozium spray to reduce the smells

  8. NTA. I’m a disabled smoker, and I go outside every.single.time. Report them, you don’t need to risk your health for their laziness

  9. NTA. You live in a smoke-free apartment and that says it all. Let your landlord know you are being inundated with smoke and it is making you unwell. No one has the right to inflict this on you.

  10. NTA at all! My apartment complex is nonsmoking as well so I find somewhere outside that won’t stink up my neighbor’s apartment if I can! Like out on the street or in my car that is parked super far from their windows. Your neighbor can either do the same or you need to report them. Someone’s else’s poor choices should not affect you in any way especially in matters of health!

  11. NTA

If you chose a smoke-free dwelling, you should be able to enjoy a smoke-free dwelling.

Report them to management. If management doesn’t address it, see if you can break your lease.
