Hi everyone. So on the weekend we were going to another city to go out with my friends. My friend H was driving back. Me and my friend P needed a ride back. H said she wasn’t sure as she already had 4 people in her 5 seater car so we said that if she got a ticket for having too many people in the car we would pay it. Before we started our ride back H wanted to drive 5 mins from where she had parked but as soon as we left the car park there were police standing outside and stopped us. H wasn’t wearing her seatbelts so they gave her a ticket saying it’s for not wearing a seatbelt plus she had too many people in the car. I don’t think it’s fair for me to have to pay the whole thing now given that part (or whole) of the ticket was bc she wasn’t wearing her seatbelt. Thank you and would appreciate any constructive criticism.
WIBTAH if I say it’s not fair for me to have to pay the whole thing?
YTA. If you made the deal, you pay for the ticket. But it should be split amongst whoever agreed to the deal, whether that is just you and P and H or all the passengers.
The ticket will say what the ticket is for. If it’s for the seatbelt then NTA. If it’s for having too many people YTA.
I don’t even really understand why you posted here. Just look at the ticket.
Nah, they wouldn’t have pulled her over in the first place if they didn’t notice there were too many people in the car. YTA either way.
i feel like YWBTA if you didn’t pay part of the ticket because the police said too many people was a reason and she warned you guys, but making you guys pay the whole thing is unreasonable because she also wasn’t wearing a seatbelt and that was also a reason. good compromise would be to split payment on the ticket, either you or H paying the whole thing wouldn’t be fair to either of you guys
YTA if you don’t split the fine for too many passengers. The seatbelt part is on them though.
The fines should be itemised and easily calculable.
ESH. Split the ticket because it was for both.
You should pay part of the ticket for the too many people, but not for the seatbelt.
You pay the too many people part, not the seatbelt part.
YTA for even asking, it’s pretty obvious.
Ummm. YTA. You pay the full ticket and an extra $500 (minimum) since you basically just guaranteed her insurance rates will shoot way up? Nice one, you decided to force a lifelong premium increase on a friend to save money on an Uber. Realllll amicable.
Have fun explaining to her why she has to pay an extra $800 yearly thanks to you.
We both know she wouldn’t have got caught for the seatbelt. She only got pulled over becasue of you.
People like you who rely on social pressure on anxious people too scared to be mean are just great. You couldn’t take a hint when she said “umm I don’t know”?
You literally said if she got a ticket you’d help pay. YTA.
That’s where my opinion is at too. OP said it, so they need to do it.
OP YTA.
You said you would pay… FIgure out the individual cost of each portion and pay – YTA
YTA for agreeing to get in a car. Actually you and the driver.
Zero consideration for actual consequences outside of a ticket. You are all a holes.
Only last year where we are we had a car with too many in it have an accident, the poor people who had to see the implications of an overloaded car of dead, dying and injured 18-20 year olds.
Pay the fine and grow up.
>we said that if she got a ticket for having too many people in the car we would pay it.
You gambled, you lost. Pay for your portion. YTA if you don’t hold up your end of the deal.
Sounds like everyone needs to chip in…but not for the seatbelt. That’s H’s responsibility.
