AITA for not giving the cashier my ID??

I (27, f) went to the Dollar General in my town a few weeks ago with my boyfriend (30, m) we were shopping around and the cashier asked if we were ready, which we weren’t even near the checkout line so no? We aren’t lol.
We went to look at their movie selection, he found a rated R movie that looked pretty decent, we add it to the cart and head to check out.
She scans most of our stuff, gets to the movie and says dramatically “I HAVE NOO IDEA WHY BUT ITS ASKING FOR YOUR ID, do you have your ID??!”
I’m like girl no just put in a random date and move on I’m not getting my id (which both of ours was in the car)
She gets an attitude, does exactly what I asked her to do and moves on to the end of the transaction.
My man gives her cash, a 5 & 10 dollar bill…
THE CASHIER PULLS OUT HER MARKER TO CHECK IF HIS $5 & $10 WERE REAL! I was appalled lmaoo I pointed and laughed and she screams that it’s policy, I’m like whatever you say smh and I leave.

A few days ago, me and my boyfriend go to Dollar General and we get some stuff and we get a Lion King movie. She is the same cashier from last time and when it gets to the movie, she’s has the same reaction from last time asking for our ID
I said girl I’m not giving you my ID and she’s like well. I’m not selling it to you and I’m like OK then don’t
she and I get into somewhat of a yelling match because she has no real reason to be asking me for my ID for a PG movie and this time she doesn’t sell me the PG movie even though she sold me the rated R movie last time
Am I the asshole for not giving her my ID and calling corporate on her ass?

  1. Dude I don’t know if YTA but this interaction sounds trashy as hell. I cannot begin to imagine yelling or talking down to someone making minimum wage at a dollar store? Like how miserable must you be to give them grief for policies that they don’t understand or have any impact on?

  2. Yes, you are. Where I’m from you would not have gotten that first film without showing I.D. She circumvented policy for you and probably got scolded for it. Then you come back with attitude?

    YTA. Treat pepole better

  3. YTA. Just give them your ID when they ask. They’re doing their job. Their job is more important than your ratchet attitude.

  4. YTA. I used to check IDs for a liquor store. I would have refused service to you both times.

If a cashier system asks for your ID either get your ID out or don’t buy.

This is completely separate to the horrible way you treated a girl just doing her job.

  5. You know you’re TA. In what world is harassing retail workers for doing their job not an a-hole move? Honestly be so fr.

  6. YTA for making this all up. But if it’s real, then your the asshole for treating someone the way you did and yelling about a movie. It’s not the cashier’s fault the register made her ask for ID. Maybe the cashier got in trouble for just typing in a random birthday before.

  7. YTA.

She’s just doing her job and trying to live her life, she already let you slide a little and you’re getting pissy that she would let you slide more?

She doesn’t make the policy, any time she bends it even a little she’s sticking her neck out for you. Take what you’d been given and be grateful for it. Try to do better in the future when you find yourself in these situations.

And if you think that you can’t find grace in these thoughts? Then fucking grow up, child, because it’s not all about you. That cashier is every bit as much a person as you are; be glad that you aren’t bound by the same rules.

  8. “I harrased and made fun of a cashier for doing her job. AITA?”

There, I fixed your tittle for you.

    YTA
