Long distance is so hard 19F and 21M, dating for 8 months, any advice?

Me and my boyfriend have been dating for 8 months and he is not at college and I am. He lives in New York I live in Pennsylvania, we usually see each other once a month but lately I have been having second thoughts about being in this relationship so young, especially when I see the Campus couples at my school. I wonder if my life would be better having someone that goes to the same school. I have been having intrusive thoughts about breaking up with him and finding someone here but at the same time I also love him thought to go away once I see him do you guys have any advisor? I just a really bad person.

  1. Long distance is hard but it can certainly be fulfilling. I’m in a long distance relationship and waiting a month to see each other is a nonissue. We’re both in college (23F and 22M) so I know how you feel. If you’re not feeling like your needs are being met then yes, you should explore other options (including just being single).

  2. 10-year long-distance relationship survivor here. Saw her twice during that time. Got married after, approaching 20 years now.

My advice: Don’t look at the other couples – they’re not you. I obviously don’t know you so this might be completely wrong, but – you may not have physical presence all the time, but you very likely have a much stronger bond than most because of it.

If you want to spend your lives together, stick to it. It’s worth it.
