So typically, we bring our ID cards to class and tap it on this monitor thing to record attendance. I forgot to bring mine last week and I told the professor about it. She asked me to remind her after the class.
So each class consists of two hours with a 10 minute break in between. I remained her about it after the first hour. And after the second hour, I went up to her but I had a lot of stuff on my mind so I forgot to be formal about it. I pointed to her laptop and said “second hour” but not in a rude or commanding tone and I genuinely had no ill intent. In my mind I was reminding her since I had already asked at the start of the class. Looking back on it, I can definitely see how it came off as rude though.
She paused, stared at me for a couple of seconds and said, “Ask nicely.” I was shocked and afraid because I genuinely didn’t mean to be rude and at the time I didn’t really have an inkling that I’d done something wrong.
But I didn’t want any trouble, so I quickly said, “sorry, sorry” and then she continued to say, “Who do you think I am? Your friend?”
I apologised again.
And now I feel pretty bad about it.
