AITAH for not buying my friend a drink while she waited for me?

I [31M] met up with a friend [F31] of about two years for a drink. She said she had been having a hard time at work and wanted to catch up.

We met up at about 4 and I had an apartment viewing at 6 that I forgot about so I mentioned it to her. I offered for her to come if she’d like but she declined and said since it was nearby/quick we could keep hanging out after.

Usually I buy the first round but she did this time. We chat, drink, snack, etc and then I get up to get going and she keeps insinuating that she wants another glass of wine and that I should be the one to get it. I politely tell her that if she wants another drink to grab it and I’ll get the next round when I get back. She looks upset or off put, but I leave anyways.

I’m gone for less than 15 mins and on my way back, she texts me “just pull up and I’ll come out”. I ignored it and went in since I had already parked. The first thing she says is “you pissed me the fuck off” when I walk back into the bar. When I ask why, she mentions some of her friends I’ve met and how they would “never leave her drinkless after having such a bad day, and in fact they would have just paid for this whole thing for her”. She said something about how I don’t have manners and was impolite.

So Reddit, AITAH for leaving my friend drinkless while going to see an apartment when she was having a bad day?

TLDR: met up with a friend, had to leave for an apartment viewing (<15 mins), upon coming back my friend said I don’t have manners for not buying her a drink while she waited for me to come back.

  1. You’re obviously fishing for attention. You obviously know she just trying to get free shit. What’s the point of posting this?

    1. She wasn’t fishing for free stuff. She paid the first round and expected him to cover the next round but he didn’t bc he was leaving and was gonna get the round when he got back. So she paid for both drinks in the first round then a drink for herself and maybe even another.

He should’ve gotten her drink before he left even if he wasn’t going to buy one for himself

      1. I don’t really think she was fishing for free stuff either.

But she ended up not getting herself a drink in my absence but I did buy us another round when I got back like I said I would.

We went to a second place and she got the first round and then I got the next. Usually we just go back and forth.

      2. Good lord. I said HE is fishing for attention. And she obviously looking for pity or free drinks “all night”

        1. But you said “she just trying to get free shit” and I’m saying no she isn’t since she paid for the first round

          1. Paying for the first round doesn’t mean shit when she expected the second and said something about people previously paying for her whole night

          2. That’s how rounds work. One person buys the first round, then the other person pays the next round. No one is getting something free, unless you walk out before you pay for your round which is what OP did

          3. You musta missed the part where she mention people would pay for her whole night after she had a day like that. Paying for the first round is a typical method of people trying to get free shit. I’m saying this as a former bartender. That shit happens all the time. Starting off paying for one thing makes them think they won’t seem like a gold digger

    2. Not sure how you came to either of those conclusions. If I have to explain why I posted this, maybe you should work on your reading comprehension.

      1. “never leave her drinkless after having such a bad day, and in fact they would have just paid for this whole thing for her”. Gee you musta forgot that part

  2. NTA sounds like she’s got bigger issues than just having you buy her a drink. Why didn’t she just order her own drink?

    1. No idea, but she made me feel like such a huge jerk for it. I did end up getting us another round when I got back like I said I would.
