Context: i work for this guy, theres me and 2 other guys.
In the van every morning, my boss drives, i sit in the passenger seat and the other 2 guys sit behind. The guy who always sits behind me works a night job as well as this one, so as soon as he gets in the van every morning and every afternoon when we’re on our way home, he just falls straight to sleep.
Nobody seems to care too much and tbh, i don’t care either. Us other 3 sometimes chat, sometimes play along with some game on the radio, sometimes I’ll drive the van and all 3 of them go to sleep and i genuinely could not give a fuck.
However, the guy who sleeps every single journey who sits directly behind me sometimes snores. Sometimes loudly, sometimes quietly and i can ignore it mostly but we had just done this job where we were out in the rain ALL day, we were all tired and cold and wet and just wanted to get home. We sit in the van and instantly this guy starts snoring.
I tolerated it for 10 minutes or so, but in the end I shouted out to him to wake up. Not aggressively, but definitely not a pleasent way to be woken up. Another 10 goes by and he’s snoring again and now I’m pissed off, so I shout out something along the lines of "if you’re gonna snore like that, then you ain’t going to fucking sleep, just stay awake."
Things were a bit awkward after that obviously and once we got out after the journey, I apologised to him and he said its cool, but given the fact this guy works 2 jobs to keep the lights on for his kids and his girlfriend, i feel like i should have just kept my mouth shut and let him rest after a long, shitty day at work.
Basically, I feel terrible. Am i an asshole?
YTA. Buy some earplugs. You chewed out a guy who works basically 18-24 hour days. Let the guy sleep. I’m glad you apologized.
YTA earplugs exist for a reason.
Don’t wear earplugs while driving.
Yes, YTA. That’s why you feel bad. Apologize again–more for your own guilt than his discomfort, but more importantly, don’t do it again.
Be grateful that you don’t have to work essentially 24/7 to keep food on the table and a roof over yours and your family’s head–because remember, at any point in your life, that COULD be you. It could be any of us.
You had a crap day at work, and you took it out on him.
Where you an AH? yeah, YTA.
Should you be hard on yourself? No. We’ve all had those days. We’ve all had crap days and we snap at someone who didn’t deserve it. You apologised, he accepted. All is good.
Get him to see a doctor. Just because he’s so tired doesn’t mean he should be snoring loudly. Likely more going on – sleep apnea, etc. It’s easy to tell you that you were wrong for waking him up, but some people have little to no experience being around chronic (loud) snoring. It can be unbearable for those who have to suffer and earplugs aren’t gonna solve that problem for others.
This needs way more upvotes than I can give you. Snoring like that is so NOT normal. I’ve been on packed subways where nearly everyone who nabbed a seat (and even a few of those who didn’t) are snoozing, and there’s no snoring. I’m not sure people understand that loud snores are the exception, and not the rule.
To OP, soft YTA — of course this sounds frustrating, but at least you did realize it in the moment and apologized, so now just try and *do better.*
ur not just an asshole ur a fucking prick. HEADPHONES get some and fuckin use them
You are most definitely TA. You shouldn’t be so rude to coworkers if you don’t want a toxic work environment. If a coworker ever swore at me it would be a huge issue.
YTA Jesus bring some headphones and let the man have a nap.
YTA. Snoring isn’t something one can control. If you are truly ok with someone sleeping then you have to be ok with them snoring. It is grating, sure. But that doesn’t give you the right to shout at someone.
You’re right, you should have kept your mouth shut.
Holy crud. While OP is TA, the amount of people telling him to basically block his hearing while driving is insane. You shouldn’t wear either headphones or earplugs while driving.
The post says the boss is driving and OP sits in passenger seat.
Anyway, YTA, OP. Give those headphones a try.
