Basically, I’m still in high school and I go out with my friends not very often and each outing is about 100 bucks. This is my 2nd part time job and during my first one, i worked from 1pm-11pm so I basically only ate dinner and usually my food would be 30 bucks.
I am an overweight person, my blood pressure and blood sugar is high and my parents are worried about my health, and they don’t like me eating supper.
Now here’s the issue, my parents want me to start using my own money for meals when I’m working now. I work 10am-10pm for this job so I need lunch and dinner. My pay is 90 bucks a day. They wanted me to work cause they said they weren’t giving me money to go out with my friends anymore.
My first month working there, my dad loaned me 40 bucks for both meals and he told me at the end of the month. I work 5 days a week, so for the entire week, I pretty much are convenience store instant noodles. I cant go anywhere else cause the place I’m working at is in a mall and I don’t have my license so I can’t really go anywhere outside the mall, and the restaurants in the mall aren’t exactly cheap. My parents had noticed since they always ask me what I eat and majority of the time I’d say I ate instant noodles. They then talked to me about how instant noodles are bad for me and whatnot. Because they told me this after 12 hours of standing the entire game, so obviously I wasn’t having it, I told them they want me to be healthy, yet they want me to spend my own money on my own food, and they also don’t want me to have supper. Healthy food is usually expensive, the ones that are cheap are in small portions, if I eat healthy, I’m gonna be hungry at night and I’m gonna eat. If I eat instant noodles, Im being unhealthy but I won’t be hungry at night. So at this point, whatever I do, it’s gonna make them unhappy.
Side note, I’m also mad about my dad being cheap. He pays for our internet and me and my brother have 15GB a month, I’ve constantly asked him to get me in the 30GB plan which isn’t a big difference price wise from the 15 one. And he told me it’s because he wants me to not use my phone so often, well since i work at a mall with no wifi and there isn’t many customers on the weekdays, I tend to use my phone. My phone is also the oldest one in my family, an 8 year old hand-me-down from my mom. My mom is switching phones this year and I’m getting her Iphone 13 pro max when my friends are getting the 17 pro max. I’m not the kind to be jealous or anything but when I broke my phone, I had to do chores to make up for the money to fix it, when my younger brother broke his phone, they just buy a new one for him. He has a little bit of anger issues so he tends to throw his phone too.
In the end, I still paid my dad back. My total pay was about 600 bucks and I gave him about 200 bucks leaving me with around 300 bucks left. I know my parents want the best for me. I’m just kind of pissed. AITA?
How is going out to eat in high school (presumably without alcohol) $100/pp?
How is mall food for one meal $30?
I know inflation is real but I live in one of the most expensive markets in the world and can still get a sandwich for >$10 in every neighborhood.
LOL yeah like is OP running over to the airport for lunch?

Only go out as much as you can afford 🤷♂️
You are spending WAY too much money on food. this is insane. 30 bucks for one meal, EVERY DAY? I’m sorry, but this is completely unreasonable and your age shows. You need to learn to budget- $15 for a meal, $30 ON OCCASION, and eating out only a few times a week. I also don’t understand how an outing with friends would be $100, also totally unreasonable. You need to get a better grasp on money.
spending $40 on food when you only make $90 is wild especially if you’re living at home and have health issues to worry about
Oatmeal >>> Instant Noodles.
Both just need hot water.
Oatmeal will can help with HBP, I’m guessing your using full seasoning with your noodles so thats a sodium bomb.
Ummmm..YTA.
Youre calling your parents “cheap” but I assume they provide you with healthy food at home?
If so? Then its not unreasonable if you want to go out and eat junk food with your friends/at work that you pay for that out of your wages.
When youre an adult/young adult youre expected to make choices and thats about your money, your work and your health.
You could take a pack up meal from home if money is a real issue.
They are trying to help you learn some responsibility for your own choices.

>Basically, I’m still in high school and I go out with my friends not very often and each outing is about 100 bucks.
Maybe you and your friends can find some cheaper activities to engage in. You don’t need to blow 100 bucks on every outing.
>Healthy food is usually expensive, the ones that are cheap are in small portions, if I eat healthy, I’m gonna be hungry at night and I’m gonna eat.
No, it isn’t. Bananas, potatoes, beans, rice, lettuce, and tomatoes are super cheap. If you’re limiting your choices to the frozen aisle and the pre-made instant meals, then they’re going to be pricy.
Your parents are trying to do you a favor by teaching you to budget responsibly, and you’re acting like a baby about it. Help them help you.

Add easy to make foods to the grocery list and make food to take to work. Sandwiches, veggies, fruit. Easy, filling, way less salt and additives.
Take a book or better, school work to work in your down time. You think your father is cheap but you waste money. I’m a full adult, I rarely hit $100 for food and alcohol on a night out.
You need to learn to budget and live in your means. Learn that now, if will save you a world of heartache when you’re an adult
Why aren’t you bringing meals with you? Sandwiches are easy to make, super cheap, don’t need refrigeration depending on the ingredients, and can be very filling. Make yourself a couple of sandwiches at home and throw in some fruit or veg as snacks and eat that instead of ramen.
As far as the phone and the internet, if you want more internet why don’t you ask if you can pay the difference in plans?
You need to stop eating out so often. $30 per meal on a regular basis is excessive. Have you worked on budgeting?
Pack a lunch…?

This just makes you sound lazy, their is stuff in your house and if their isn’t go buy some bread, and peanut butter.
YTA. Learn to cook some simple meals and start bringing your own meals to work. Something easy like rice with chicken and broccoli is filling and probably cost less than $5 per meal when you make in a big batch.
Also spending $100 per outing is outrageous. I’m 35 years old and don’t spend that much unless it’s a special occasion.
Your dad is not cheap, he’s trying to teach you the important life lesson of living within your means, ie not spending more than you earn.
YTA. You’re making $450 a week and upset about spending $20 on food per shift, plus complaining about not getting an iPhone 17 when you’re still getting a 13 Pro Max for free. Your parents aren’t being cheap, they’re trying to teach you that when you have a job you pay for stuff during work hours like everyone else does.
