WIBTA If I robbed a realtor of the chance to make good money?

I, F33 and M44 are in the process of purchasing a home.

The process, however, has been horrendous. I have to practically beg our realtor for updates on the listing we want and insist on being sent more options. She also contacts my partner but not me, despite the fact that i’m the one in charge of our finances/arranging things/responsibilities. (That’s just what works for us)

When I ask her a question she’ll contact my partner with the answers ignoring me, when discussions about putting an offer down need to happen she surpasses me to go to my partner who has to bring it to me anyway.

Outside of the fact that it’s starting to feel like a personal slight, it’s incredibly unprofessional to not adhere to promises she makes ("i’ll give you a list of properties tomorrow" and two days later I have to ask only for it to be sent to my partner,…)

We are good buyers. Able and willing to pay in cash and do it right now. We are eager to own something. Yet, it’s like pulling teeth

WIBTA if I tried contacting the listing agent or even owners directly, costing her her commission?

EXTRA INFO: Nothing has been signed.

  1. NTA If a commissioned salesperson is not being responsive to your needs, find a new one or just deal with the sellers agent or FSBO. If you didn’t sign a buyers agreement (which you never should) you owe them nothing.

  2. NTA. maybe she should have considered that before ignoring you and only answering your partner, as well as not updating you properly. 🤷🏼‍♀️

  3. Just do so, it will probably save you the money and headache.

Also why is your husband not shutting her down. If your arrangement is that you are in charge of the house hunting he should be telling her to contact you.

  4. NTA, but why are you against simply calling her on it?

It doesn’t hurt to say “Do not send correspondence to my husband. He’s not my secretary. I am the one coordinating this purchase. You will miss out on a sales commission if you expect him to pass information through in a timely manner”.

She wants her money, she deals with you. End of story.

  5. INFO, have you signed a contract with her? If so, what does it state your options are? Sometimes you can drop them, but if you close on a house they’ve shown you within a specified period of time they could still be entitled to the commission. Look at any and all paperwork you’ve currently signed to understand what you can do.

  6. NTA. I’d go to another person or directly to the owners, she sounds like she’s more interested in your partner than her commission anyway.

  7. I think you would get a kick out of r/assholetax right now.

This realtor is choosing to be difficult, well these are the concequences for her. She is supposed to make the process smooth, instead she is doing the opposite. That is not what she is getting paid for so she shouldn’t.

    NTA

  8. NTA you are getting poor service so you should go get another buyer’s agent. She doesnt deserve the commission she would earn based on what you are telling us.

Don’t contact the listing agent. They are working for the seller, not for you. Get a buyer agent who represents your interests and will work with both of you, not just your husband.

  9. NTA

Call her boss, tell them you want to cancel your contract with your Buyers Agent and why and get a new one. YOU DESERVE IT!!! That AND RESPECT!!

PS Before I became a Pilot I was a Real Estate Paralegal. Feel free to ask me anything for free.

  10. If you haven’t signed anything then you could just stop contacting her and start doing things on your own. I would.

  11. You have no contract.  Get another agent immediately, one that actually works.  Don’t let the opportunity to get a good home pass you by.  Act now, because she certainly is not.

  12. 1. if you have nothing in writing, walk away from your realtor.

    2. If they work for a Broker, send the broker or the Realty company your feedback.

    3. Contact the listing agent if that is your desire. (I do recommend finding yourself another realtor who will do what you want.) It shouldn’t be too hard, Real Estate is very competitive. I found it very beneficial to have a buyer’s agent in all my purchases.

If you have not signed a contract with this agent, you have no reason not to fire them.
