I’m (26M) living with my roommate (25M) in a 2 bhk apartment.
We’ve been splitting rent and utilities 50/50 for over a year, everything fair.
Last week he was drunk and slammed the fridge door too hard the handle broke off completely, and now the door doesn’t seal properly so food spoils faster.
Repair guy said the Hinge is also spoiled.
We would need a new one, which would cost $150 for a basic double door, according to the repair guy.
We are students both of us don’t have much. I told him since he broke it while messing around, he should cover the full cost or at least 75%. I told him if he doesn’t have the money ask his parents they’re doing well enough.
Well he says we should split it eually like other bills… And I really don’t wanna do that he already keep forgetting to buy groceries.. whenever i tell he will be like can i get it he will me…. But when i get back he argues why i am buying unnecessary stuff… its not unnecessary….. He wouldn’t go and buy stuff and when i go and get it he complains.
So now we are just fighting a silent battle as of now… Idk he is lazy ik But he shows up for me when he is needed… But financial aspect/responsibility this guy has none… Idk what to do
AITA for asking him to pay atleast 75 %… Or should i split it 50-50 with him?
