Am I the asshole for absolutely despising and pushing back on AI email responses? I have a certain director at work that loves AI. They love to make stupid cartoons and videos for PowerPoint presentations and will send late night AI crafted emails to make themselves sound more important and aggrandize the gravity of a situation. As a leader myself I feel like I am way more sincere and effective if I write something myself. The AI crap (at least for now) is so easy to spot. I pushed back at this individual pretty hard a few months ago. When I told my boss I hadn’t decided if I was going to respond to the latest I was told not to.
Work e-mail is for work, and only used during work…
NTA – annoying and extremely unprofessional, push back on that, maybe review the company’s policy on communication and word outside work hours
NTA. If it’s not important enough for you to write, it’s not important enough for me to read.
Last year in my freelance business, I received on the same day two email inquiries about job offers that were clearly Chatbot generated. I was like, “Is this a Nigerian prince reaching out?” One of them turned into a multi day gig, but it definitely left a poor first impression.
NTA, fuck AI
YTA because you are not this person’s supervisor, and your supervisor told you not to. This person sucks, but it’s not your problem. Document until you can prove a case and bring it to someone who can actually do something.
Had not considered that fact. This person is a director, but on the support side. Neither one of us report to each other nor really outrank each other. FWIW
INFO: How exactly will you ‘push back’? Can’t really say if you’d be the asshole without knowing what you’re planning on doing.
Initially I wanted to clap back in a email response, but was considering calling them. We have a good relationship and respect each other. I just feel that at the end of the day it’s a people business. In my opinion one leads people personally.
Ok: NTA but it’s probably a really bad idea to call up a director and tell them they shouldn’t use ‘AI’ anymore unless they’re your employee. None of the directors I’ve ever met are happy about anyone below them telling them how to do things, that always, always makes them extremely angry.
So, go for it but have another job lined up.
Good rule of thumb is anytime you want to “Clap back” as a response, don’t do it in a professional setting. If you think a response is getting into clap back area, even just on the fringe, pull back, stop, and give yourself a moment before sending that response.
YTA. Look, I hate AI slop as much as the next person, but this really doesn’t seem like it’s your place to step in. Your boss already told you to stay out of it, not a very smart move to ignore them and keep pushing the issue.
Info: No idea what happened here.
YTA. The guy found something he liked, let him enjoy it. You might have something that you do that he doesn’t like
Are they emailing YOU AI stuff? Then NTA for saying something. “I have a very full inbox and prefer to dedicate my time to human composed messages. Please leave me off future distros.”
Are they emailing other people AI stuff and you just know about it? YTA if they don’t report to you.
You can take some solace in the fact that his use of AI is making him dumber.
