AITA for eating something else after my wife made a bad dinner.

My wife made a meatless quiche for dinner. It took an hour longer than she said and tasted bland and overcooked. I offered to cook before she insisted, as I normally do. We both acknowledged it didnt turn out well. I ate a pity plate, went to the kitchen, and made a turkey sandwich because I was still hungry.

My wife is pissed and saying Im making her feel bad. I tried to be discrete but she got me when I was making it. I dont want to hurt her feelings because she is kinda insecure about her cooking but bruh its like 9:30 PM and im starving.

Idk should I have done something differently?

  1. NTA. If your wife made a shitty dinner this is to be expected. I have had meals turn out bad and my wife ate something else.

  2. NTA, we all sometimes mess up and make food that is inedible 🤷🏽‍♀️ that’s when we go and buy in n out lol. I’m the main cook in the house and still if I’m trying a new recipe or I get distracted while cooking and it doesn’t turn out well we call it a fail laugh it off and make something easy at home or go buy food 🤷🏽‍♀️ it’s such a low stakes thing I’m confused why she’s mad

    1. Oh! Ive done this!! You go in and out of the fridge asking about inventory levels. You cant remember what you opened the fridge for. You’re looking for leftovers from last month. And then you walk away and eat in the bathroom, wondering if it was the “leftovers” that aren’t settling right. (I low-get ake my sammich in the drawer, inside a pawertowel, and keep all my mess there, no ones the wiser.)

  3. NTA, I wouldn’t want to eat bland overcooked food either.

I’m the main cook in my house. If I make something and my husband doesn’t like it, I’m not going to get mad at him for eating something he does actually like. I’m not going to make him starve or force him to eat something he doesn’t like.

    1. Yeah that’s the weird part. Yes some quiches have ham or bacon, but it’s also totally normal for a quiche to just be spinach and cheese or roasted veggies. Maybe she used some weird tofu or something like that in it???

    2. That threw me a bit too. I know quiche lorraine is pretty common, but it’s also VERY common to get a vegetarian quiche. I’ve never heard them referred to as “meatless quiches” like they’re some kind of novelty. In fact, most of the quiches I can buy at the store are vegetarian. Usually lorraine is the only one sold with meat.

      1. Yeah, it’s not that lots of quiches don’t have meat, because they do, I just don’t assume meat when you say “quiche,” and I wouldn’t find a meatless one worth commenting on. The thing that makes it a quiche is the egg and cheese.
