I have a Kia SUV I bought for my daughter a few years ago. When she got her own vehicle, she gave it back. I have kept it because it’s good to haul stuff on and not worry about getting dirty and it has more room than my car.
My brother calls me the other day and said that someone gave him one almost like it. Runs good but has about 200K miles on it. I’m glad for him, but I know when he calls, it’s to ask for something. This one shocked me: He wanted to borrow the tires off our SUV, put them on his SUV to have it inspected, and then switch them back. I told him NO. He was upset and told me I was an AH.
NTA. First off, he’s trying to cheat the inspection, which. I’ll just say I disagree with that choice. Second, you wouldn’t get those tires back, for sure.
I’m fairly certain that his plan constitutes fraud.
You want no part of that.
NTA – and I imagine you’d have a VERY difficult time getting your tires back…
NTA by a longshot. S\*\*\* like that is what causes problems for the rule followers and is the reason that rules have to made in the first place. Tell him to kick rocks and buy some damn tires that are safe!
Yes, especially if he got the car for free.
You are possibly saving his life by saying no. He needs to have proper tires on his vehicle FOR HIS OWN SAFETY.
Not to mention others on the road as well.
Your brother is the AH.
Nta. You won’t get ur tire back.
Or get them back only after they are wore out.
But whats a few 10k miles between family.
NTA. He wanted you to make your car inoperable to pass inspection. Why couldn’t he have bought himself a tire? Presumeably he would need to have do that regardless if he was going to drive around in his car. Either he intended to drive around on non-inspection-passing-tires (unsafe, illegal for a reason, plus you’d be ootentially complicit in his fraud), or he didn’t intend to return your tire. Him calling you a jerk over it doesn’t help his case.
Tires are not a cup of milk or ba jacket.
You don’t “borrow” tires, especially to illegally pass a safety test.
NTA
NTA. He got a free car. He should be able to afford the tires on it. I guarantee that this tire “loan” will end up being a tire gift. Plus, he’s asking you to aid and abet in fraud.
The chances of you getting the tires back after inspection would be null to nothing.
NTA but maybe look at off brand locking lug nuts so he can’t come help himself to a tire swap.
