  1. NAH. I think it depends on the building and local cat situation. There is a stray black cat that has lived in tbe parking garage for years. Someone leaves a bowl of food out which I think would attract pests and other cats but I think the building is pretty good about pest control and we have no onslaught of cats or bugs.

Not sure if *just water* can bring the same problems. I imagine it might if your neighborhood has a lot of stray cats. I also think ot might bring bugs and pests if left out during certain seasons.

But if you think your landlord will have an issue id stop doing it.

You’re not wrong for wanting to give water to a stray animal. But your neighbour also isn’t wrong for not wanting stray animals to be coming around the building.

  3. NTA

Your neighbor is losing his mind over a bowl of water. Not food. Not a litter box. Water. The cat was already around. You didn’t summon it with a magic spell.

The “you’re inviting pets” line is ridiculous. It’s a parking lot, not a gated wildlife sanctuary.

Yeah, telling him to get a life wasn’t polite. But honestly? When someone starts threatening to call the landlord over hydration, patience is gone.

He’s making this a drama because he’s bored. You gave water to a thirsty animal. That’s it.

  4. NTA but you may want to check your lease agreement to make sure you’re not violating anything. I lived in an apartment where I was not allowed to even set out bird feeders. If anything, your neighbor might say something to the landlord and they’ll give you a letter/email/text just letting you know you can’t do that. If you keep doing it after that then they might take further action.

  5. Bro, you’re literally giving water to a cat, not throwing a rager in the parking lot. Your neighbor needs to chill and maybe get a hobby. Landlord ain’t gonna care about a thirsty floof.

  6. NTA. It’s not near the doors, and someone is probably feeding it or it’s getting food from the garbage, since it is hanging around the complex. The neighbor is a bit heartless and an a$s. Go check with the landlord to get ahead of the situation if you are worried about the neighbor’s threat. The landlord might not even care and could be feeding the cats.

  7. NYA but please check to see if your community has a Spay A Stray program. It’s better for the cat and the community if they aren’t reproducing. And as someone else said, check your lease for any restrictions. Some landlords don’t want stray animals around and others don’t care.

  8. nta at all. but do check if it is against the rules of your building to do it. if its not then i guess your neighbor will continue to get mad at you just being a nice person

  9. NTA

There’s nothing wrong with showing a little kindness to an animal. Let your neighbor be mad.

As others said, you might want to look into other things to help the kitty. A lot depends on the cat and where you live. Post to social media in case he is lost. If he is friendly, you can have him scanned for a microchip. Vets and shelters do it for free. That might lead to contact info for the owners. If he is not friendly then your best route is to trap him for spay/neuter. Otherwise you’ll end up with lots more kitties. Here in Atlanta there are organizations that will help with trapping and the shelters have low-cost neuter programs.

  10. Please get a have a heart trap and take this cat to a no-kill shelter. Or take it to a vet (will be expensive) and bring cat to your place. New pet. If you do trap it you may get an amazing selection of other animals. You have to check it every morning.

  11. NTA but keep an eye on that cat, have no doubts the landlord will side with you because it’s just a bowl of water for stray animals in the area

if the neighbor is *this* upset, I also have no doubts that they would potentially harm it to make the “problem” go away
