AITA for expecting my mother to tell before the plumber came over.

Visiting my home country after living on the other side of the world for years. Woke up around 10:30 am after days of waking up at 5 am to work remotely and overlap with my office a little bit.

Someone knocks on the front door around 11; it’s a plumber. He’s come to fix some leaking pipe under the bath. So now I can’t use the bathroom until he’s finished (it’s only the bath that’s out of order btw, the shower, basin, toilet) were all fine.

Two hours later, he’s gone, I can finally pee, wash, brush my teeth etc.

AITA for feeling so irritated? I just feel like my mom could have given me a warning like 15 minutes before he arrived so I could get the morning rituals over and done with. I’d wanted to go out, but ended up just doom scrolling for two hours while the bathroom was being taken care of.

The cherry on the cake was after I finished up getting ready, she saw the time was 1.30 pm and passively aggressively chided me: “Oh you’ve really had a long sleep haven’t you?”

Erm no, I was awake three hours ago but couldn’t get ready since you didnt warn me a plumber would be in the bathroom for two hours.

  1. NTA, definitely understandable to be irritated. I’d be pissed if I wasn’t let known that I couldn’t use the bathroom at certain times.

    1. I was alone in my room. I woke up about half ten and lazed about a bit planning to get a shower at eleven.

She didn’t know what I was doing.

  2. NAH. If it was a leaking pipe, I guess it was scheduled that day, before you got up. You usually get up at 5am, so you were obviously sleeping in. For all they knew, you’d just sleep through the plumber and would be upset if they woke you.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to sleep 4.5 hours later than your established routine and then be upset that people didn’t wake/disturb you to tell you things.

    >I just feel like my mom could have given me a warning like 15 minutes before he arrived

Did she know when he’d arrive? Where I live, they show up when they show up.

    >and passively aggressively chided me: “Oh you’ve really had a long sleep haven’t you?”

You got up *4.5 hours* later than usual!

  3. How was she supposed to tell you if she thought you were asleep and didn’t make it known you were awake.  She gave you the courtesy of letting you sleep

    Yta

  4. Getting notified would have been nice. Especially since it isn’t very nice to have a stranger in your living space.

If she was in the house it would have been a simple matter of mentioning the appointment at some point, maybe the day earlier. Since at least in my area, one does not get a same day appointment unless we are talking major property damage or health concerns.

Even then you have a phone, she has a phone there could have been a massage sent. Or old school paper pen and tape to your door, the fridge or something

  5. Maybe you should have told her you weren’t going to get up at 530 am on this day the plumber came. She doesn’t owe you jack. Get out of bed at 8 and go pee and symtop whining about the plumber who cae to fix the plumbing. You could have said give me half a sec to pee and grab my toothbrush also. No sympathy whatsoever.
