AITA for not letting a fat guy join my team? Today in my school there were selections for our school football team who is going to play at state level and nationals. After the selections happened and the team was announced and all of us were shocked, a fat guy \[Let’s call him ‘F’\] was also selected in our team. Why we were surprised? Because ‘F’ doesn’t even know how to play football. He is a 112 kg guy and is built like a donut. ‘F’ runs for 30 seconds and gets tired and then rests for 2-3 minutes in a match and a guy like that is going to join a football team which is going to play state and nationals.
Now let me tell you a bit about ‘F’. ‘F’ is a very fat guy, he is 17 years old and has already been hospitalized 2-3 times because of his obesity. His dad is our school’s trustee, and he comes from a very affluent family. On top of that he is a very rude asshole and tried to fire a teacher.
Now back to selections, As we our PE teacher announced the team, all 10 of us were shocked cuz a guy like him was selected who couldn’t even run. Enraged by this we went to our principal’s office to discuss this and she didn’t even hear us. She told us to "let him play" as everyone should get to play. I agree to this but should a guy like him play at a stage where our school’s reputation is at stake?
Now 7 of us have decided to leave the team.
Edit: I am talking about soccer and not american football.
YTA. My kid is a tank and he plays travel. Big kids aren’t as useless as you think. Glad you left the team to make space for kids who really want to play.

If “letting the fat guy play” is all it took for you to leave the team, the team is better off without you.
In my opinion: YTA
It’s HS sports, it isn’t really that serious. Your principal is right.
That being said, I question allowing someone who has been hospitalized more than once in the manner given, to play in an extremely active sport…is definitely giving me some vibes about the lack of care for the kid. But you don’t know private conversations, maybe this is the best thing for the kid, physically and mentally.
It’s not your job to question things like this. Instead of questioning the admin. Maybe try and make a friend, see if you can change his outlook.
Also, you’re a pretty shitty teammate.
YTA for caring that “your school’s reputation is at stake.” Do you make all the girls sit out for dodgeball, too? Get over yourself.
So wait this guy is trying to better himself by playing sports but hes gotta deal with people like you. How sad
YTA. This isnt a career dont act like it is.
YTA. Doesn’t sound like your team. Sounds like a school team and the coach made the decision. And honestly sounds like all seven of you are taking this way too seriously. Let the coach worry about F. You guys worry about yourselves.
This isn’t a job where him being there will affect your ability to get paid or your grade. Do you really want to look back at your school years and see that you pitched a fit over something you didn’t control? Or do you want to try your best and let coach worry about F.
It’d be one thing if this was the NFL. This is a school team.
YTA. How is F supposde to lose weight if he isn’t allowed to join in athletic activities?
Also, “all 10 of us were shocked”… yeah, this is most likely fake. Sounds like you NEED him to even have a team if this is remotely real.
YTA. The way you speak about this guy tells me you are prejudice against anyone who is overweight, and it’s not about the team. Could have been a great opportunity for a kid who is likely ostracized by people like you, to join a team, make friends and get fit.
So lemme get this straight… This guy is overweight and has been hospitalized for weight-related issues (which how do you even know that? 100% chance it’s all rumors) and you’re mad because he decided to pick up literally the only sport that really benefits people being large and only able to run in short spurts?
GTFO.
I’d choose that kid on my team over a judgmental person like you any day. Good for you, F! Show those haters who’s the best! I bet OP didn’t leave the team, but wasn’t selected this year. He’s mad because this kid was chosen instead of him. Congrats on peaking in middle school, since you clearly aren’t peaking in high school.
YTA
Claiming this is the schools reputation is hilarious
You say this team is a contender for a national title they you say your PE teacher made the team selection and only 10 others are on the team. Is this a gym class?
If this is for PE class, you’re way too invested in it. Everyone will stop caring about the game the minute the class ends.
Also, has it occurred to you that he might want to exercise to help get in better shape?
You’re like the people who say overweight people shouldn’t go to public gyms.
