AITA for charging $25 for an hour’s work of manual labor loading stuff?

Yesterday as the flea market was closing one of the vendors, an old woman in her 50s, was loading her heavy stuff in a van and asked me if I could help her. She said she would pay me but it would take an hour to pack up and load up everything. I agreed and it wasn’t particularly difficult but I asked for $25 and she agreed and said she would always pay me if I can come by once a week to help her. AITA for charging her for something like this?

  1. NAH. You asked, she agreed. Clearly that means the service is worth that price to her, if she wants you to keep coming back. Everyone wins!

  2. NTA she’s happy to pay, and wants you to do it every week. You didn’t con her or anything. Mild yta for saying 50’s are old though!

    1. lol, I’m already 40 and I sure as hell don’t feel young. She was also complaining about how her back hurts a lot, but she’s a nice woman even though her english was pretty bad.

  3. Nah dude, totally fine. Labor costs money. You both agreed and that’s literally how jobs work. Don’t let anyone guilt you into doing stuff for free.

  4. NTA.

She said she will pay you for your time and your charge wasn’t off putting. She even asked for you to come by every week. It’s all good.

  5. Where I come from, that isn’t much for an hour’s worth of heavy lifting and labour.

And a woman in her 50s old? Hmpf.

  6. NAH. But why is this even online? you didn’t scam her, she agreed to it even gave you an offer to always come back

  7. NTA. She appreciates the help and is willing to pay. If you feel she cant afford it or just want to be nice, go have some good food and spend the money first for a bit. Later on, if you feel like it buy her a coffee or something she likes to eat once in a while.

  8. NTA

You are doing work for someone, it is only fair you are compensated somehow.

When it is for friends and family, that compensation is often pizza and a promise that they will reciprocate the favour in the future.

When it is a business or a complete stranger, then it is only fair that you be compensated for your time.

$25 for an hour’s worth of labour seems fair enough.

  9. Where is the conflict? Sounds like she’s happy and you’re happy. NAH. $25 sounds perfectly reasonable, quite cheap even.

  10. NTA for charging her qn agreed price. She agreed to it so whats the problem. YTA though for calling her an old woman. She is in her 50s ffs.
