AITA for telling my friend he can’t stay at my apartment anymore after he insulted my girlfriend?

i (28) let my friend "carl" (28M) crash at my apartment for a few days while he was between jobs. my girlfriend came over the other night and carl straight up told her she was "too good" for me and could "do better"

i told him that was disrespectful and he needed to apologize. he refused and said he was "just being honest".

so i told him he had to find somewhere else to stay. he packed his stuff and left, but now he’s telling everyone I "chose a girl over a friend".

my other friends are split because some say i over reacted and others say he crossed a line.

AITA?

  1. He was insulting you, not your girlfriend, and you didn’t choose a girl over a friend, you chose your own self-respect over his rudeness. NTA.

    1. Arguably he also insulted the girlfriend as well. By saying she was too good for OP and could do better, he’s insinuating she is a bad judge of character/doesn’t know her own worth/etc. Like, it’s a double insult in this case.

A lot of the time it’s used, it’s a situation where you’re clearly trying to build the other person up and get them to leave an abusive relationship, etc, but a lot of the time (as i suspect is the case here), the party saying it, is silently saying “like me”.

  2. He insulted you not your GF, he probably found her very attractive, and got jealous of you.

So he said that to try break you two up, or to hint that he is up for some “behind the back” work out 😅

You should probably stop talking to him.

    Good luck mate!
