I (45F) am married to my husband (45M). It’s my birthday today and the first day of Hanukkah, so today was a very big day for me. There was a big snowstorm where I live, so our dinner reservations got canceled and my backup plan, a pizza restaurant, is actually closed on Sundays. So my day was already off to a bad start. My husband’s mom was supposed to come to our house on Tuesday so she can fly to the airport on Sunday to visit her daughter for Christmas. My husband told her that today won’t work because we are celebrating my 45th birthday and Monday won’t work because I have a job interview tomorrow morning. That’s why we all settled on Tuesday. I found out not that long ago that she decided to come TONIGHT even though we told her that we can’t have company. I’ve been locked up in the basement and crying for 2 hours now. I told my husband to tell her not to come, but she’s already almost here and she lives 6 hours away, so we can’t really kick her out now. I have to drop her off at the airport tomorrow morning even though I have my job interview that morning. I told my husband to figure it out since she’s his mom, not my mom. He thinks that I’m overreacting and being unreasonable. This was the final straw. I told her that I’m NOT going to drive her to the airport tomorrow and neither is he. Now she’s upset with me and is giving me the silent treatment which is rare for her because she barely ever stops talking.
My husband would drive her tomorrow but he’s going to be out of town for his job and can’t drop her off on his way.
