AITA for not wanting my flatmate to use his phone on speaker late at night?

Last night my flatmate came in about 00:30 and proceeded to take a phone call on speaker. This got me up from my sleep up as my bedroom is literally next to the living area. On top of this he had entered my room earlier without permission to borrow something of mine so I told him he had interrupted my sleep and to stop. I can’t remember the tone or what I said being so late but I could have maybe been calmer. However, he thinks I was unreasonable saying he shouldn’t make calls on speaker right outside my room so late. His justification was he had been out all day and this was his only opportunity to make the call. AITA?

  1. If he does it again, go into his room and join the conversation. He’ll get mad for eavesdropping and the other person on the line will be annoyed by him.

      1. A person in a coffee shop was on their computer and had joined a zoom meeting on their phone on speaker. The people around them could hear the entire conversation. It sure sounded like they were discussing confidential information. I said quite loudly, ‘Could you speak a little slower, I’m having trouble writing all this down.’ The person slammed their computer closed and ended the call.

  2. Next time he does it, position yourself outside his room and start blasting music when you know he’s asleep. He can be rude, you can one up that.

  3. NTA

He can make his phone calls whenever he wants but deliberately standing outside of your door is bullshit.

But given his other behaviors, he’s deliberately trying to fuck with you.

Is he trying to get you out?So he can move someone else in?

    1. I don’t think it’s so much deliberate than that this guy is oblivious. Sounds like that’s how he acts at his parents home and never learned to be a normal person. Either way, he’s the AH and OP should get another roommate

  4. Urgh nothing annoys me more than people speaking on speaker, whether at night or during the day. Next time he does that make annoying sounds

  5. NTA. Even if it is his only opportunity to call, he could have found a way to not disturb you while making the call. Does he have bluetooth headphones he could use? What about going to another room? Or going outside to make the call?
