AITA for being furious my friend borrowed my phone to take photos and then walked off with it for 20 minutes while I had to wait?

I was hanging out with a friend and some other girls. My friend asked to borrow my phone quickly to take a few photos. I said yes, assuming it would take maybe 5 minutes.
Instead, she and the others walked a short distance away (out of my easy earshot) and proceeded to use my phone for a solid 20 minutes for a full photoshoot. I was left sitting there, completely empty-handed, and couldn’t even go ask for it back without interrupting them.
When she finally returned it, I was absolutely furious. It felt incredibly inconsiderate of my time and property.
AITA for feeling this furious?

  1. nah, you’re not the asshole. borrowing a phone for pics doesn’t mean a full photoshoot. super inconsiderate.

  2. YTA. I don’t know much about women, but I do know women love taking pictures and will take loads looking for the perfect shot and at multiple angles. It doesn’t surprise me at all that it took 20 minutes. Sounds like a massive overreaction. I’m sure if you really needed your phone back in an emergency they’d have done so. 20 minutes without a phone isn’t long at all. You must be a lot younger than me if 20 minutes without a phone feels like a long time. Dunno how you would’ve survived without smartphones.

    1. whether it is the case of man or woman, borrowing someone’s phone and returning it after 20mins ain’t a right thing to do even if i didn’t have any emergency

      1. A length of time is highly subjective. I often leave the house for hours without my phone forgetting I even have one for half the day. I’m not glued to my phone. So to me, 20 minutes is no time at all.

  3. NTA for being frustrated with the situation.

But learn the confidence to ask for your property back. You had every right to take your phone back once you became uncomfortable.

  4. NTA….
If someone borrows such a personal property especially for photos…. It’s considered for a couple minutes at max whether man or woman doesn’t matter….
If you are really fond of clicking good pics, buy your own phone…

    And then what?

They do a whole photo shoot with YOUR phone and what– you upload for them later?

They borrowed your phone, logged out of your socials, logged into theirs, and then commenced photos? That doesn’t make much sense.

Neither does you being the only person with a phone suitable for pictures, especially in the age of everyone has a smart phone and most of them are already logged in to their own social media on their personal phones to upload pics instantly.

  6. What your friend did was very inconsiderate. But here’s where you could have improved the situation: “couldn’t even go ask for it back without interrupting them”

Why on earth were you worried about interrupting them? A “photoshoot” CAN be interrupted. They’re not professional models. Borrowing your phone “quickly” doesn’t mean 20 minutes. All you had to do is say you need/want your phone back. NO other girl in that group had a phone?

Did you at least tell your friend you were angry? It doesn’t help you to be treated inconsiderately and then let it continue and/or say nothing about it. If you just stay furious without doing anything, it feels really bad and you won’t learn how to stand up for yourself in the future.

  7. Is it really such a hardship to be left with your thoughts for 20min – it isn’t very long at all. Perhaps exam why not having your phone for 20mins leaves you furious.

  8. ESH. They should’ve asked before walking away with your phone and should’ve realized 20 minutes is too long.

But who lets someone just walk away with their phone? You weren’t “left sitting there”, you chose to sit there. When they started to walk away you should’ve asked for it back or gone with them.
