AITA for having a “visible attitude” while doing chores my father told me to do?

I (16F) got asked by my father to sweep outside today because there was a lot of trash. I didn’t want to cause a scene, so I went ahead and did it. However, I’ve been in a lot of pain lately since I recently sprained my lower back while carrying a 5 GALLOONS of water last night.

EDIT: (The water is those blue galloon thingy which is 5 galloons—so people won’t assume I just carried a galloon. Common sense guys.)

I didn’t mention the pain at first because I knew how he would react. He often complains that I "don’t do anything around the house," so I thought if I brought it up, he would just use it as a chance to lecture me.

While I was sweeping, the pain became so intense that I was on the verge of tears. He noticed my expression and got angry. Instead of asking if I was okay, he wanted to know why I acted upset whenever he asked me to do something.

I tried to explain, "My back just hurts; I’m not trying to seem upset."

He didn’t listen. He yelled at me, saying, "I rarely ask you to do anything, and then you act like this!" He made me feel like it was my fault for being in pain. I decided to stay quiet because I didn’t want to hear another lecture about how "lazy" I am, even though I was doing the chore he asked for while injured. I knew that if I said, "my back hurts," he would still expect me to do it.

Note: Sorry for bad English, I’m not a native speaker.

  1. You’re NTA. You did the chores put didn’t appear happy enough while you were doing them because you were in pain.  Dad needs to grow up. Sounds like he was looking to pick an argument.

  2. poor girl. coming from a fellow 16F, i know what you mean. my mom is like that and it’s so so exhausting. my dms are always open if you need to rant or vent! i got you

  3. NTA.

But if you strained your back carrying a gallon of water consider exercise to strengthen that back of yours so you don’t hurt it so easily.

    1. Yes! I will thank you. I do carry galloons of water almost every week to refill the fridge, but last night I don’t know what went wrong but it felt like I broke a bone😞

      1. This doesn’t sound like a sprain, it sounds like something much worse. You need to go to a doctor ASAP

          1. I just told my mom minutes ago about what happened. She said it was my fault for not telling him because my mind was advanced for thinking he’d be upset. Also I don’t think I’m getting medical help sooner or later because my mom massages it for me

    1. I genuinely can. 🙁 idk what happened last night. When I carried it on top of the counter, my back was suddenly strained and I was in pain.

  4. NTA. My mom is like this, but I still get the chores done 🥴 honestly being upset while being told to do housework is a common experience for people who went through the phase of growing up lol your dad needs to take a hike. Unlike you, I don’t even try to hide it lol he’ll regret that if you actually end up being hospitalized with something more serious than just a simple sprain.
