So I (19m) have been planning a surprise birthday party for Violet (19f). I had this idea months ago when she told me that because her birthday was so close to christmas she didn’t get to celebrate it to the fullest and because she was going away on break we wouldn’t be able to celebrate it with her. So after discussing with 2 close friends, Danton (18m) and Ocho (21f) I chose to create a group chat with most of our close friends, in addition to Tommy (17m) and Tanya (18f) who albeit not as close to me as the rest of the people I invited, were friends with Violet and had been cool all the other times I interacted with them. Through planning people kept adding more and more people until we got a list of around 15 people going to the party. It was inconvenient for our small houses, but it was fine since we were all mostly close friends. However when everything seemed perfect, Ocho was going to drive Violet to her party on the guise of picking up another person to a hangout and everyone that could have been available was available.
However, Tanya brought up that she didn’t think Violet would like surprises or big parties, after nearly 2 weeks of planning. Tommy took ownership of the plan, acting stressed that “his” plan had been ruined although it was me who had the idea, started the group chat, made the original decently sized list, and fixed any issues that came up. But Tanya and Tommy brought it upon themselves to cut the list down to 4 people. Tanya and Tommy themselves, Danton, and Violet. They cut me off, Ocho who was literally willing to drive people to the party, and all the other people who were going out of their way to attend. Not to mention they were previously willing to cut off Danton from the plan because Tommy tried changing the day for his own convenience and I had to fix it so everyone could attend. They ultimately decided they didn’t have to cut anyone off, but I was still pissed. Not just that they took over my plan, but that they were willing to cut everyone off at a whim.
I was so betrayed that I had a very selfish Idea, tell Violet about the party. I know it sounds evil but I don’t plan to hurt Violet. I think this is the best course of action as it seems Tommy and Tanya will ruin the party if this continues staying a secret. I would confess to Violet what I had planned and why I thought this was now the best course of action. I wouldn’t antagonize Tommy or Tanya, I would just ask her what she really wants for a party and plan it with her instead of with the group Tommy and Tanya.
