I’m a part of an online book club, and this month they voted to read a book written by a book club member. I ordered the book directly from the author, and it came with some Ai generated art of the characters. That already bothered me a bit, but I’ve gotten a few chapters in and it feels like I’m reading a first draft. I paid $37 for this, and nobody in the book club seems to be bothered by anything I’ve mentioned above. There’s multiple typos, to the point where it’s extremely distracting, and there’s no formatting (none of the paragraphs are indented). The story is interesting, but the ai usage and unedited book for almost double of a completed and edited book makes it hard to continue. The author is very sweet, but seems to get her feelings hurt easily and I’m a moderator for the discord group that this discord is a part of. Would I be the asshole if I stopped reading? Or should I ignore the problems I have and give it another chance?
I won’t be sharing the author name here, as she is very sweet. I’ve never had this type of moral dilemma from books before so I need an outsiders view. Thank you in advance.
