Ok maybe I’m crazy, but my neighbors dog I’ve had to call animal control and the cops on…it gets in our trash throwing it all over our yard, attacked my sister and a door dasher and was constantly on our property.the last time a cop had to tell them they couldn’t have it on our property at all.its not a small dog either, its a Great Dane hound dog mix.Today..there’s a new dog,it’s friendly.but there are footprints all over our yard.dogs and kids included.their kids are sledding on our hill(ours is small they have a HUGE one on the opposite side.) where they are sledding…at the bottom is straight bricks (which they already played with and we told the owner.).we’ve warned them we didn’t want them on our property anymore because ontop of that they also left our hose on for 2 days.and it flooded our yard,we had to pay for it.they sled over my nannas dog wood tree their dog killed by peeing on and chewing it.and now its footprints in snow proving they are still coming on our property.the foot prints lead to our windows, which is creepy.
My grandmother thinks maybe I’m just being mean…but I think me crashing out is valid.our neighbors used to be family so maybe I’m not used to neighbors but…my family is saying I’m just being mean and should take the loses,am I the asshole?
Good fences make for good neighbors
NTAH Unfortunately until you can build a fence you won’t be able to stop them.
NTA but have you tried talking to the owners? Maybe they don’t realize the kids are doing all that, or realize how annoying it is. You’d be surprised how oblivious some parents can be. I’m in a similar situation, but I share a duplex with them. 6 kids and never any parental supervision. I have to keep nagging the parents about the kids getting into my stuff in the garage and making messes everywhere. Seems like I have to keep getting on their case every couple weeks but it helps. If talking doesn’t help things, get a couple cheap surveillance cameras and if you can get evidence of them destroying your property, you can probably take them to small claims court.
NTA. They’ve had multiple warnings. Actions have consequences
NTA. This isn’t about being “mean,” it’s about repeated boundary violations and safety issues. Their dog attacked people, destroyed property, and they let it roam. Their kids are trespassing after being told not to, and you’ve already paid out of pocket for damage they caused. Calling animal control/cops and banning them from your property is the normal escalation when neighbors refuse to be responsible. You’re not obligated to accept damage and risk just to keep the peace.
NTA. These are the kind of people who will sue you if one of their trespassing kids gets hurt sledding on your property. Can you invest in a fence?
Yeah. There was a story not that long ago where kids got injured in a water fountain/feature. They tried to sue the homeowner.
NTA
Assuming you are in the US
If the kids get hurt sledding on your property the parents can hold you liable for their injuries and sue you for the medical bills.
NTA if you paid for it, it’s your say, end of story.
Have you talked to your new neighbors?
Maybe they lived elsewhere where they had more access to their neighbor’s property and now feel comfortable abusing your property.
But that’s not common, so you are definitely NTA for being uncomfortable with all of their overstepping.
Can you afford a fence? Otherwise plant a lot of barbery bushes. Sorry, auto correct insists on spelling those nasty thorny bushes. My aunt did it and it worked.
can you put up a fence
even a flimsy little wire fence – – hardware stores sell it by the roll – – makes the point and gives you a legal starting point
eta NTA of course
NTA, it isnt too much on the kids but also the parents for continuously allowing that behavior especially when you told them something. Also, the dog attacks? They put people around you in danger and most likely dont show remorse considering the other things you listed.
NTA— Other than a fence the next best thing is to hit them in the wallet. Start handing them bills for the damage they are causing. The tree – give them a bill for the replacement. The water damage from the hose – give them a bill. Anything that you have to fix, send them a bill. Make sure to take videos and pictures of the damage. Once they have to start forking out cash that should stop them.
