Super Bowl party tomorrow and my roommate and I throw a \*decent\* amount of parties. He is fed up with having to clean a bunch of peoples dishes after having them over. We don’t have a dishwasher. He is thinking about asking everyone that uses dishes to clean them before they leave. I think that’s kind of a funny request because it is just a consequences of throwing parties. What do you guys think?
Edit: he called himself dish Hitler. He did buy paper plates but says “if they use a cup they have to wash it!”😂
For context we are upperclassmen college students.
I think you should just get paper plates.
YTA thats insane
That would be extremely poor etiquette. So, YTA. Good thing there are paper plates!
As a guest, I usually offer to help clean up. But if a host directly told me to wash dishes, I would never attend one of their parties again.
Buy disposable party supplies. Recyclable/compostable ones if possible but this is why they exist.
It is unrealistic to ask folks to each wash their dish at your home. Someone will get stuck doing more than their fair share honestly and it’ll breed resentment somewhere.
get some paper plates
YWBTA. If you don’t want to wash dishes, pick up some disposable or don’t have a party.
Unfortunately hosting a party means cleaning up after the guests, that is the role of the host. Also, having a bunch of people lining up to use the kitchen to wash their dishes one after another before they leave sounds annoying as hell, it would be quicker and more efficient to wait until everyone is gone and wash everything at once anyway.
Yeah, part of hosting a party is cleaning up afterwards. Maybe some guests will offer to help as a courtesy, but it shouldn’t be expected. If it’s such a big deal get paper plates/bowls instead.
YWBTA. Guests are to be treated as treasured visitors.
YTA- buy paper plates
It’s call paper plates. Disposable dishes. Problem solved. Ah move for sure don’t host parties if you don’t want to clean up.
Um obviously YWBTA. If I was invited to a party and the host made me wash my own dishes after using them that might honestly be the last time I speak to them. They sell really nice looking disposable dishes so get some of those. You’ll still have dishes but not as many. Otherwise don’t throw so many parties.
Look, on the upside, that will be a party/event that people will be talking about for years to come….
Sort of in the vein of “You remember that party where those jackasses made us wash dishes?”
If you want to be memorable, go for it!
