First and foremost, this is regarding a college class project for a Marketing Class. I am in a group of 3 other people, 1 girl and 2 guys. Me and the girl are the only ones who have been contributing to the project and prepared for class ahead of time by reading the case analysis, while the two guys refused to do so and were lost and confused all throughout class today. I got tired of trying to explain the case to them and just stopped doing so because they hadn’t done their fair share of the project. My professor informed me that there is a peer review and that I could write down that they didn’t do anything. I told the two guys that it isn’t fair to leave me and the other girl to do all the work and told them to read the case prior to class. While I shouldn’t have told them that they weren’t doing anything to their faces, would it be bad of me to give them poor peer reviews? My grade and the other girl’s grade shouldn’t suffer because these two don’t want to contribute. In the past, I have worked with difficult people in groups and despise group work for this reason. While I understand this is an important life skill to have in the workplace, what’s the point of doing group work if people don’t pull their own weight?
YWNBTA at all. You absolutely SHOULD have told them that they weren’t pulling their weight. You did nothing wrong here. And those peer reviews exist because people don’t do group work.
You would be an Asshole to let them continue Not Learning while paying for their college experience, and you’d be an Asshole to pass them on to the next unfortunate group to suffer from.
You would not be an asshole to hold them accountable for work clearly explained and outlined to them, not even a little.
You told them they weren’t doing the work. You were correct in this.
You want to leave an accurate peer review. You are also correct to do this.
They earned it.
NTA
YWNBTA. peer reviews exist specifically for this situation. they didnt read the material, they didnt contribute, they showed up confused. thats on them. your grade shouldnt tank because they decided group project means free ride
NTA. That is exactly the purpose of peer review right?
Please don’t feel bad about telling them they didn’t do their share. They didn’t. It was their selfish stupid choice.
Also use the peer review for its intended purpose and make sure your prof knows they suck.
NTA 100%
I don’t get it. Of course you should be honest in your review, instead of lying in order to cover for people whose poor performance negatively impacted you as well. Why is that even a question?
And,
> I shouldn’t have told them that they weren’t doing anything to their faces
Why on earth not? 🤷🏼♂️
That’s what the peer review is for. Why would you lie on it? Be truthful because as your professor said, that is what it is for. Don’t embellish or complain just be factual.
In college? That you are paying for?
NTA. Rip them to shreds.
You absolutely SHOULD have told them they’re not doing anything. If they don’t change then you absolutely SHOULD give them a bad review. This is a life skill for all involved – they can learn and suffer the consequences, that’s definitely a life lesson.
YWNBTA
They need a wakeup call and you need to not have lower grades because of it.
NTA, they’re not pulling their weight, full stop. You put in your peer review that you and the actual contributor are the only ones that did anything in the project
N/TA. They are aware they shirked their responsibility and they should suffer a consequence. If your group gets a high grade because of the work that you and the one partner put in, is it fair that those two slobs share the credit? A bad peer review is their just reward.
NTA. Why would you be for being honest? This is exactly why the prof is doing peer reviews.
Also, a good lesson for you, protecting people in a professional environment who aren’t pulling their weight because you’re worried about hurting their feelings or damaging their personal reputations is never the way to go. You’re not damaging the reputation, they already did that themselves.
