Why do sales associates at Victoria’s Secret act so distant towards men?

I’m done shopping at Vicki’s secret because of the snob attitudes from some sales associates. I generally shop online but sometimes I need to do a return or I like looking around seeing what would look good on my girlfriend. Older male here, and it seems like whenever I go in store to walk around, I either get a please don’t bother me look or a female customer giving me a disgusted look at how dare you enter my safe space. I was there the other day doing a return and I’ll never forget there were a family of 3 generations of women (mom, grandma and daughter) shopping for the younger daughter. She had some bras and panties, I was behind them waiting in line. The "Grandma" said something to the daughter and they got out of line and moved to the side. Once I was at the register doing my return, they got back in line to make their purchase. Did Grandma think I was trying to get a peek at what her Granddaughter was buying? I had no interest in her or was even looking. I was simply doing a return. Any other guys get a weird vibe from sales associates or female customers?

  1. I mean, I’d love to live in a world where men shopping at an underwear store aimed mostly at women wouldn’t raise eyebrows but unfortunately this is to be expected.

  2. It might be that ‘Priests in a Lingerie Department’ joke from Father Ted taking effect in the real world.

  3. Well let’s break this down. We have a three generation family, standing in a sexualized retail environment for women, to buy something for the youngest woman of the bunch. This might be a reach, but I’m willing to bet grandma thinks this is a ridiculous, perverse environment.

And guess what? Standing right behind them is the perfect candidate for the pervert…a male! Grandma has you clocked, and she protected her flock.

Does that mean you are actually a pervert? Who knows….but grandma isn’t taking any chances.

Sometimes social interactions are just what they are.

    1. “The youngest was shopping for some bras and panties” – When I’m at the grocery store I have zero idea what the people in front of me or behind me are purchasing.

  4. *”shopping for the younger daughter. She had some bras and panties*”

*”Did Grandma think I was trying to get a peek at what her Granddaughter was buying?*”

Uhhhh…. Sounds like you were taking a peek.

  5. My guess is that they have to deal with more guys who are creeps in one day than guys who are not creeps. So to put up a wall to protect themselves from creepy behaviour, they treat most guys like they are creeps.

  6. Every time I go in there I have a sales associate walking around with me answering all my questions and taking me to whatever I’m looking for. They have always had amazing customer service in the areas I’ve been to. Sorry yours is sucking apparently.

  7. I experienced this too, back in the early 2000’s…and what I found very helpful was to share a pic of the woman I was shopping for.

The dynamic shifted instantly! They would get excited helping me find great stuff!

    1. Exactly.

Show them a nude pic of your girl and ask them what they would recommend for her body type. Instantly reduces the tension.
