AITA for cleaning the toilet with my brother’s toothbrush?

Okay so I am very meticulous about cleaning especially when it comes to the bathroom. Since there are so many small areas that can’t be cleaned with large brushes I decided to use a toothbrush. There have been 4-5 toothbrushes in a cup for the longest time that I swear nobody touches. I have a bunch of siblings and me and my sister keep our toothbrushes in our rooms. I’m not sure about my brothers but I’ve never seen anyone use the toothbrushes in the cup in the bathroom. I swear they’ve been collecting dust.

Anyways I just grabbed one of the oldest looking toothbrushes and cleaned the toilet, corners of the shower, the sink, you know all the small spots. After I was done I scrubbed the toothbrush clean and put it in the drawer I leave all the cleaning supplies in. This drawer includes the sprays, sponge, cloths, brushes, squeegee, cleaning pastes, etc.

Next day I go to clean the bathroom again (as I do everyday) and the toothbrush was gone from the drawer and back inside the cup above the sink. Obviously I freaked and went to ask my siblings who used the toothbrush that was in the drawer and my eldest brother, 19 years old, said it was him and asked why I moved his brush.

Now I just wanna ask yall, if yall see your toothbrush gone and find it inside the drawer with the cleaning supplies, would yall grab a new toothbrush from the cabinet or proceed to use the old toothbrush from the cleaning supplies drawer? I mean I feel like it’s common sense to not use that toothbrush but my brother disagrees. He ended up using the old toothbrush and putting it back inside the cup therefore contaminating the toothbrushes inside the cup and his mouth (yes gross i know)I told him that he just used the toothbrush that I used to clean the toilet and he’s pissed and convinced I did it on purpose to mess with him. Now he’s threatening to take my toothbrush and wipe the toilet with it to get back at me. But I don’t think I’m at fault here. Yeah I probably should’ve just grabbed a new toothbrush for the cabinet and used that one but I thought it was a waste to use a new toothbrush for scrubbing the toilet. Plus yall I really dont think they ever use those toothbrushes.

So yeah, AITA? 😬

  1. YTA “no one ever uses them” it’s not yours don’t touch it and especially don’t leave it around after doing that

Not only did you do something disgusting with something someone uses, looking old doesn’t mean use it for the toilet.

If you needed a brush to clean it with why no use yours.

One final thing make it know if you do that

    1. I called BS on this.

There’s no reason OP couldn’t use an appropriate brush to clean the toilet. There’s no way using a toothbrushes would preferable at all.

It sounds like it was written by somebody who has never cleaned a toilet IRL

  2. YTA.

You didn’t need to type any of the context. You don’t take anyone’s things and use it without their permission. Period.

  3. YTA, sorry, but you should have asked before taking the toothbrush or at least inform your siblings that you took the toothbrush to clean the toilet. for me thats common sense to make sure this doesnt happen.

maybe your bother thought the toothbrush was stored in the cleaning drawer on accident.

  4. YTA big time. Common sense would be not to assume toothbrushes taken from a communal storage space in your bathroom would just be there to “collect dust”. At the very least you could’ve checked before just taking it

If you’re using the toothbrush to clean anyways, don’t you think you’d want a new one that wouldn’t be spreading someone’s mouth germs all over the surfaces you’re trying to clean?

That is so vile, I feel awful for your brother

  5. YTA. Since you admit you don’t spend that much time in his room, you just assumed you can touch any of his stuff.

  6. You can’t truly be this dense. How hard would it have been to ask if there’s any toothbrushes that aren’t being used anymore? You talk about how your brother lacks common sense when yours is nonexistent. YTA

  7. YTA

Do you expect people to inform you when they brush their teeth or that it’s some kind of performance for you? You took a toothbrush from the cup of actively used brushes, that did not belong to you, to clean a toilet and failed to inform the owner of the brush? You are so in the wrong

  8. YTA, come on dude.. ask everyone in the house whose brush belongs to who.. it’s not that hard..

  9. So if you use a toothbrush to clean the bathroom every day, as stated, which toothbrush were you using before this? YTA for not checking
