AITA for calling out my boyfriend after he commented on my neck?

Tonight my boyfriend and I were looking at necklaces for me online and he said, “Did you take into account that the model’s neck is much skinnier than yours?”

I slowly turned to him and said, “Did you really just say that to me?” I wasn’t yelling or cursing, I was just clearly frustrated and hurt.

We’ve been together almost 29 years. We’ve both gone through physical changes over time, but he immediately got mad at me stomped out of the room and said that after almost 30 years together we should be able to be “honest” with each other. I told him honesty is fine, but commenting on any woman’s body like that will NEVER be received kindly. Now he’s acting like I overreacted.

AITA?

  1. You said “did you really just say that to me?” and he stomps off as if you called him fat neck.

    Is everyone taking crazy pills?

  2. NTA. This trend of “brutal honesty” as code for “being rude” is so tired. He could have NICELY approached this ie “That’s a beautiful necklace honey. Let’s check the chain length in the description and make sure you’ll like the style before ordering, it’s so hard to tell from a picture.”

Or he could’ve trusted that OP has probably looked at necklaces before and is not an idiot.

    2. I’m sorry but I’d be madder at this comment than from him just laying it out there that he thinks I’m a fat oaf. Like I’m not a moron, I don’t need to be talked to like a child, and I’d see through this instantly as a weird thing to say.

  3. NTA. Does he really think that a woman who’s been shopping for decades doesn’t know how to look at a model and judge how the item might look differently on herself? And why is it ok for him to be “honest” about your size but not ok for you to be honest about being upset with him?
