I will try to be as clear as possible. This is about my granddaughter but I am raising her so I will just refer to her as my daughter.
My daughter is 13 and doesn’t have hair due to the medial treatment she is undergoing. She hates the feeling of wigs so she doesnt wear them.
It was her birthday last weekend and I informed the family she really wanted gifts from a specific store near us. it’s a small business beauty store, that sells clothes to jewelry.
My DIL told me should wouldn’t be able to make the party and my son was traveling ( he’s been gone for like a month) so they were just going to drop off the present the day before. Not a problem.
My DILs present was hair accessories form the store. It didn’t go over well with my daughter and she was crying over it. I was pissed.
I returned the gift and asked her what she was thinking. She told me the thought is what mattered and I told her this was a horrible shit gift.
The incident spread to the other family members. My daughter told her cousins what happened and I got calls confirming. my whole family is giving her the cold shoulder. She has been uninvited to a few things as of now. I am not letting her in my home unless a real apology is made to my kid.
My son is pissed and claims this was a misunderstanding and I need to give an olive branch because she has been upset since
I don’t want to and I told him it is on her to apologize. He thinks I am a dick and I know she thinks I overreacted to her present

yes my daughter is my sons kid, I am not going to go onto the situation becuae It is complex and was bad for my son mentally ( that’s a whole different situatio that is too much for Reddit, he was 12 when she was born)
I have 100% custody, he has no legal rights to her
