AITA for comming home and finding some of my plants dead

I will say this out right, I’m fairly young, and my parents have shared custody (It would be hell if they had to live together). I’m mad at my parent for coming home to 2 of my plants completely dead, as in they looked like they’ve been dried for days, after specifically asking them to water them. And, they hadn’t touched any of the other plants either. No water. They’re accusing me of not watering enough because it should have lasted "6 days" without a watering. It’s a big plant in a medium sized pot, so goes through water quickly. The other plants didn’t die because they had bigger pots. I’ve tried watering more but less frequently and it always kills plants. I know that they could have forgotten and I could be the ass hole, but they see the plants every single day like clockwork. And, feel free to tell me I’m being a jerk, if there’s one thing I want, it’s to be corrected when I’m wrong.

  1. Sorry if there are any grammar mistakes. I was watching the most nerdy video ever, about the endless search for the sterile neutrino.

  2. I N F O: Did they explicitly agree to water the plants before you left?

    I think you’re probably N T A either way but you’re extra N T A if they verbally agreed.

Edit to cement the NTA vote.

  3. I always accidentally end up killing plants from over watering – I feel they are pretty tough to keep consistently alive!

  4. If this is a situation cause by you going between two houses then YTA. If you have chosen to have these plants then you need to get plants that can be taken care of when you are around the plants. You should not have plants that require other people to take care of them when you are not around unless they agree to that ahead of time.

    1. I got the lemon balm because my parent wanted some for cooking. I do typically choose plants that can last a few days without attention. And if that’s not a possibility, then I will put them in a bigger pot. I couldn’t swap the pots because it was like 2 degrees outside and all the dirt I had was frozen solid.

    2. But I also agree with you. It was my fault I forgot to leave a small bag of soil inside, so I could fix problems like this.

  5. NTA, can you do a self watering thing?  Maybe something like this?  https://www.walmart.com/ip/Automatic-Watering-System-Potted-Plants-Houseplants-Self-Digital-Programmable-Water-Timer-Pump-Drip-Irrigation-Kit-Vacation-Plants/5038607626?

Not sure if that one is any good, but it should give you an idea to get started.

    1. Actually maybe! I’ve seen people use capillary action with a string to slowly water plants, so that’s a possibility. I am (Okay) at CAD, so maybe I could make it myself. Thanks for the suggestion. The only thing I’d change about the walmart one is a valve to adjust how much water specific plants get.

  6. You’re NTA. That is such a small thing for a parent to do for his/her child. It’s not like you chose to have to live back and forth between two homes. Your parents should be making that as essy as possible on you.
