I found out my daughter was pregnant after I made her take a pregnancy test. I had noticed that she was vomiting a lot more than usual and acting differently, which made me suspicious. When she took the test, it came back positive.
At first, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to keep the baby. After some time thinking about it, she decided that she did want to keep it.
She later told me that the baby’s father had lied to her about his age when they were seeing each other. He told her he was 19, but he was actually 17 at the time. My daughter was 20. He has since said that he wants nothing to do with the baby and that he isn’t ready to become a father.
Fast forward to now: my daughter is about a month and a half away from giving birth. I’m planning a baby shower for her, and I felt that his parents deserved to know that they have a grandchild on the way.
I found out where he lives and without my daughter knowledge I sent a baby shower invitation to the address with a note that said, “For the parents of Sam” (not his real name for privacy).
Sam later messaged my daughter asking why a baby shower invitation had been sent to his house. My daughter is furious with me for doing this.
However, if the situation were reversed, I would want to know if I had a grandchild on the way. Because of that, I felt like they deserved to know.
Am I the asshole for inviting my daughter’s baby daddy’s family to the baby shower?
