Me and my twin brother take care of my mom and I have a cat my mom keeps plants that are harmful to the cat they are kept in a room that has a pocket door for entry, the door however doesn’t get shit at all times so my cat gets into the plants sometimes and things that are harmful to her. Last night my mom made pizza and left it out on accident my brother later on uses the pocket door and doesn’t close it behind himself, my cat goes into the room with the plants and access to the kitchen and starts eating the pizza (which has onions on it which can be harmful to cats). I wake up today and send a message to our family group chat asking the door gets closed all the way when done instead of a simple yeah I’m told to buy a cage and put my cat in a cage I proceed to tell him no th door could just be shut and no one spends money on something useless. He proceeds to yell at my girlfriend when she says she doesn’t want to put her in a cage either. I proceed to yell back at him then leave my house and take a walk to get some air. He then keeps saying I should just cage the cat instead of relying on people to shut the door after themselves.
TLDR: my brother didn’t shut the door that provides access to to toxic plants my cat tries to eat and tells me to crate the cat instead of relying on the door to be closed am I the asshole for no wanting to crate my cat?
Me and my brother are the only people on the lease (my mom and his gf signed it) but they aren’t in the (leaser section)

It’s your job to be watching YOUR cat and making sure they don’t get into harmful plants. Even if that means you may need to keep them in your room when you can’t watch them.
They’re TA for having harmful plants in a cat’s reach.
They aren’t in cats reach unless the door is left open however if the cat is confided to one room she tends to get aggressive and run out the door and hide somewhere else

Put the plants in cages so the cats can’t eat it. Or hang them high. Teach your cats not to touch food that isn’t cat food. I recommend cayenne pepper. These are your cats it is your responsibility.
We rent so putting the plants in hanging baskets isn’t really an option but that’s what the door is for it separates the plants from the rooms the cat is allowed

My suggestion is to start getting rid of things like the plants or your brother that are harmful to the cat. You have clearly already attempted to keep the cat out of the room and it’s not working.
I think the onions will only cause stomach upset but a plant like a lily can kill your cat.

Also, if it’s not your house (I’m assuming it’s your mum’s based on the post), you need to move out because he clearly has no respect for you or your cat, and obviously you can’t make your mum remove the plants.
