AITA for not lending my friend money even though i can

so there’s this friend, i lended him 1000$ 2 months ago to buy a motorcycle. he paid off (last week). he’s asking for more money now to buy himself a car. i mean i have the money and I’m capable of lending it but I don’t want it to become a habit for him.
i refused so he called me selfish and "fake friend"
i mean it’s my money that i work hard for but i feel a little bad what do you think?

  1. That’s fine. You’re selfish and a fake friend. Just because he said doesn’t mean it’s true but if he’s thinking that, that’s fine. He still ain’t getting the money. Drop him, he’s the AH.

  2. That’s the advantage of having your own money, you get to choose what you do with it. Your friend should try it one day

  3. I leant you $1000 because you were in a tough spot and needed a vehicle. You have a vehicle. You can save up $1000. I’m not a bank. NTA, and don’t lend out money to anyone again…. This behavior is common!

  4. NTA
Is he a long time friend? I watched this thing on Netflix. Where the guy borrowed money from his gf, and paid her back quickly, to gain her trust. Later asked her to lent him 10 times more and he never paid her back.
So repaying first time was a part of scam to gain her trust.

    Just saying

I don’t lent money to friends because it always ends messing up the friendship. Your friend is already acting entitled to your money. So it’s good you said no.

  5. I needed $3000 for a vehicle recently. Instead of asking anyone, I went to a bank and got a loan. I don’t even have good credit and I got a decent APR at a credit union. Maybe friend needs to make more…. Independent choices?

    But yeah he’s using you.

  6. Your friend sounds as if he thinks you owe him your money. You don’t, of course. Why can’t he just save up or get a second job or sell something or whatever? You’re not a fake friend; he is. He is using you: it’s that simple.
