For my boyfriend (25) and my (23) anniversary I specifically asked him for earrings since long story short I lost earrings my family got me at his house and he refused to take the sink drain apart to try to get them for me. I ultimately was annoyed about it but figured when our anniversary/my birthday came around I would ask him for a nice pair of earrings. So I ended up getting him a nice wallet with his initials on it which was over 100$ despite the fact I am unemployed right now while he makes over 90k a year. He knows my previous earrings were real diamonds I think? But when I opened the box the earrings were lab grown, pretty big, and he made it like he spent almost a grand on them and said he got a good deal on them…and I looked up the price and they were 300$ AITA if I tell him I want gold earrings the problem is sterling silver irritates my ears. If he can’t afford to spend a little bit more money for my birthday/anniversary I may just tell him to return them and he can get his money back.
YTA lab grown diamonds are diamonds, stop perpetuating the myth that they aren’t and there’s something special about blood soaked stones.
The sterling thing is a reason to ask for an exchange, but the above overrules everything else.
