I’ve never liked using thumbtacks on walls. I don’t like the holes they leave behind, even if they’re small. I don’t even use thumbtacks for our own decorations, including things that are up long term, because in my mind no decoration is truly “permanent” eventually it all comes down and you can see the small holes.
My wife is hosting one of her best friends 30th birthday at our house and wants to temporarily decorate using thumbtacks. I told her I don’t want thumbtacks in the walls. This isn’t new or sudden, she knows this is a long standing thing for me and I’ve been consistent about it since we have lived together.
She’s now making me feel like I’m being unreasonable and says it’s her house too and she should be allowed to decorate for a special occasion. And she’s not wrong, it is her house as much as it is mine and she absolutely gets an equal say in decisions about our home. I just don’t agree with this particular one.
AITA for standing my ground and saying no thumbtacks in the walls even for a one night party?
