Hi tis is my first post i (19m) don’t feel comfortable giving (21m) coworker money, I originally gave him money about 25 eiro, he promised to give it back but he hasn’t because the day he was supposed to get paid he got a back injury it not crippling he’ll be back to work next week, he is texting me asking for more money 20 eiro and promising on his mother life that he will pay me back, but I don’t trust him and I feel bad I don’t know what to do (English is not my first language btw)
For slightly more content I am not really working but in a internship where I’m payed for the work I am still going to school
He needs the money for gas
Not your problem, don’t give him money he’s just using you.
Do you realize he came to you AGAIN and not someone else? Also how convenient that when its time to pay you back he comes up with an excuse NOT to do so? I’m not sure what country you’re in but I’d bet some form of mobile payment exists. How does a back injury stop him from using his phone to repay you? It sure doesn’t stop him from contacting you to get more money. Don’t give him another euro….you won’t see it again.
You are not obligated to give him anything. If you don’t want to. Then you don’t.
There’s a saying…neither a borrower nor lender be.
My approach when people ask for money is that they’re not going to pay it back. If they pay it back then that’s great. But I set my own expectations and then if they ask me again and didn’t pay back the original I tell them no. But if I genuinely don’t want to or I don’t have it…I don’t have to explain myself.
NTA he needs to pay you back and you need to not be his bank.
NTA – you already lent him money once and he didn’t pay it back. that’s basically the end of the discussion. once someone asks for *more* before returning the first amount, it’s a pretty clear sign you’re not getting it back
swearing on his mom’s life doesn’t magically make him trustworthy. people say that when they’re desperate, not when they’re reliable
you’re 19, he’s a coworker, not family, not a close friend. you’re not responsible for fixing his situation. feeling bad doesn’t mean you owe him cash
if you want a simple way out just say
“sorry I can’t lend any more money until I get the first amount back”
that’s fair, normal, and not rude. if he gets mad, that tells you everything you need to know
this is how people learn who’s easy to pressure. don’t let that be you
If you lent money once and they don’t pay it back then you should not lend again. That’s not being unkind.
He needs to ask his mother. He shouldn’t be asking coworkers. If he can swear on his mother’s life, he can ask her for $20.
NTA. He has not paid you back the first loan so no more loans. Simples!
You’re NTA. You’re already out 25 euro that you aren’t getting back. Unless you want to be out even more money, cut off the well.
If you give him money again, he will ask again. And again. And again. And again…. and again…
Don’t pay anything. It’s a scam. He’ll just ask for more and more and you will never see your money back. NTA.
He borrowed 25 euro and now wants another 20. Tell him he doesn’t need to borrow 20 but needs to borrow 45 so he can pay you back the 20 he owes you and that you can’t afford to lend him 45. Suggest he borrow 45 from his mom or other co-workers who are on a better wage than yourself (I bet he has already borrowed money and not repaid it from several co-workers and they won’t give him any more!)
NTA. Just say no.
Don’t loan money unless you’re willing to never see it again.
