AITA for playing music in my own car?

my brother (17M) always has a problem with the music i play in my car. i (19F) listen to k-pop and jrock when im driving because i like it. in my family, it was always the general rule that the person driving plays their own music. for instance, my cousins really like country music. i don’t care for country music, but i’ve never complained bc it’s their car so they can listen to whatever music they want. my brother hates that i listen to k-pop and always complains, saying the music gives him a headache (it doesn’t. i’ve played english versions of k-pop songs and he never complains of a headache, but when i play the same song in korean, he suddenly has a headache.) when we have to drive places, i’ll ask “do you wanna drive or me?” and he says “you can drive as long as you play american music” (meaning music in english.) i’m sick of him complaining. i don’t like his music, but i don’t say anything because it’s his car and he’s driving. so i play my music in the car, and hes pissed about it. so am i the asshole for playing my music in my car?

  1. No?? If your brother has a problem just make him drive. It also sounds like he’s a little racist if he only hates it when they speak korean and not english

    NTA

      1. It is racist when OP’s brother never said that, and said instead that it gives him a headache. Very different things man

  2. NTA. IMO Country music is truly terrible and inflicts sanity damage on me, so you are fine for sitting through it.

However, I have always had two playlists on my giant pile of mp3s. I have one without my foreign music (I listen to a lot of Jrock, Japanese/German/French rap and other such things) because people are often uncomfortable with it. I also listen to it at a lower volume when I am with people that aren’t my friends.

  3. NTA.

If he has such a problem w/ the music choice no matter the language he better buy some earphones, sleep during the ride, or suck it up & shut up.

    P.S. I love k-pop too❤️

  4. I mean you guys could compromise. I think it’s rude to intentionally play music you know your passenger won’t enjoy.

  5. NTA if he hates your music that much he can carry around earphones and pop them in so he doesn’t have to listen.

I’d be telling him he can either shut up about the music I play or I can stop driving him around. He can’t have both.

  6. NTA, one time I reminded my sister never to touch the driver’s stereo. It’s your car and it’s your music if he doesn’t like tell him to get his own rides.

    1. yeah there have been times where he’s reached for the volume to turn it off… i smacked his hand (lightly)
