AITA for posting a video from a trip was invited to join

June 2025 my cousin invited me to join a trip with her friends and I agreed. I mean why not lol I didn’t have to spend a dime and I was less busy at the time. Now the trip was so fun and I enjoyed every bit of, was genuinely one of my favorites till date. We were 5 girls but we’re focusing on one. Let’s call her Amy.

When I agreed to join my cousin had mentioned to me ‘keep cameras away as much as you can’. I asked why but was given no straight answer and I didn’t push. Now I didn’t know Amy well so there’s no way I was supposed to know about how her family is and the double life she lives, you need to understand I’m not in their friend group, one of their friends canceled due to a personal emergency that’s why I was invited to join. During the trip I obliged and kept camera away but then every other person was making videos and taking pictures so I made a few videos too and posted one on IG. It was a video of myself but towards the end I switched the camera to Amy ‘dancing’ lol and we were all laughing so and I didn’t think much of it.

Fast forward to 2nd January this year Amy invited us to a celebration at her family house, I honestly didn’t recognize this Amy as she was completely different from who I met on the trip but I didn’t think much about it at the time. Turns out Amy is from a very wealthy family and sponsors their trip from time to time. I got talking with a guy there and we exchanged socials. We kept talking until about a week ago my cousin called at midnight and was just screaming ‘what have you done’ I was just confused so I ended the call for a few minutes and tried calling her back, she wasn’t picking up. Turns out my new friend was Amy’s family friend and had gone through my IG highlights, found a video from the trip I posted last year and showed it to Amy’s parents. As you can guess, Amy’s parents knew nothing about the ‘Amy’ from the trip. Her family keeps records and the date matched with one of her ‘school trips’. She makes up reasons she has to be away for some days to go on their trips and I had just ruin everything unknowingly lol

Now it may easy to assume I’m the asshole because I posted but no one told me not to and they saw it on my page and no one said anything. They probably didn’t watch it till the end. Remember I said I switched the camera towards the end of the video. It’s been so much going on since then and honestly I understand it’s my fault but I never intended this to happen. Never even knew sth like this would come from a simple video that’s almost a year old.
