AITA for recommending a book?

I recommended to my friend to read berserk(cuz it’s peak) we are 13 and basically his mom walked in on him reading the first page iykyk. He now suspects that his mom suspects him watching porn of course he got yelled at now is not allowed to read. Now that’s the whole story(I just needed to meet the character requirement at the end)

  1. Yeah, considering berserk contains sex, violence and frequently the combination of both (read direct drawing of rape), I am not surprised at all at moms reaction.

      1. Not every manga contains literal graphic depiction of violent rape. Berserk does and not only once. It is unambigoualy adult material.

        1. Oh, you know what, I realize the error in my wording. I meant the fact that it’s Manga means that anything violent is on full display at a glance, unlike a purely written book where you can better hide what the subject matter is. It’s harder to hide full illustrated pictures of assault and violence. Like, no wonder the mom saw it and IMMEDIATELY freaked out!

  2. For recommending reading no, for the choice of book based on what mom saw yes. That’s not what 14-year-olds should be reading. But knowing how teens are I’m not surprised that was the book recommended.

  3. YTA if you didn’t even give your friend a heads up about the content and that his mom might find it objectionable. He could make his own choice to read it or not, or if he wanted to read it when she wasn’t around.

    1. I did I told him everything including the first page in fact I have another friend who refused to read the story due to my heads up.

  4. NAH- you’re 13 so I’m not going to call you an asshole for recommending media that’s controversial because that’s what teenagers do. But you also can’t get mad when a parent rightfully is upset that their child is reading something controversial.

    1. Nah berserk ain’t controversial it’s known that it’s very mature yet well written. I just kept hearing about it so I got curious I read it and found it a masterpiece. So I recommended it.

        1. No I feel this isn’t controversial, as it is generally accepted that somebody my age shouldn’t read that.

Something controversial is something where there are a lot of differing opinions involved

          1. Apologies, I thought you meant it isn’t controversial because it’s good. Yeah, glad you’re on the same side as it’s inappropriate.

  5. YTA. You’re young so it’s just a little learning opportunity. Don’t lend stuff to your friends that their parents are going to get mad about.
