I (23M) recently received an expensive gadget. It was one of those really high tech espresso machine from a relative that I honestly will never use or ever want.
A few days later I decided to returned it for store credit, and now they’re hurt. AITA??!
NTA. People give gifts they would like to receive.
True. I suppose op could’ve gifted it back to them.
This is missing context. Can’t make a conclusion.
Yes-Never tell the giver you returned their gift
Sure…until they ask how much you like the gift and/or have you used it yet.
That’s exactly what happened
NTA. Letting it collect dust would be a bigger waste
Once a gift is given, that’s the end of what the gift giver can say about it. However, they can feel hurt. But you do not have to keep a gift you’ll never use. Just buy something you’ll like and then show appreciation for it. Why would they get something you won’t use?? NTA
INFO How did the relative find out? Did you reject the gift in an unkind way?
They were at my house and asked me about the gift lmao
NTA for exchanging a gift that is of no use to you.
However, if you responded to them asking in a way that was rude, you might be the AH
yikes they put you on the spot😭
If it was returned for credit how did they find out?
NAH. Don’t be surprised if the giver resents your action.
