For context, I (15F) have just bought my own dog. I have a job and do half days at school so I can take care of her and take her to the vet. My parent’s approved of me purchasing her. She is a pure bred Havanese.
She is about three-five pounds as of this post, so evidently, she can’t hold her bladder for very long. We have tons of puppy pads for her sleeping crate and play pen. My dad (45M) is hellbent on getting ‘housebroken’. I agree with him aside from the fact that *totally* housebreaking her would mean she can’t potty in her crate during nights. He told me that if I catch her going to the bathroom on the floor I should grab her and take her to our backyard, no matter what.
Fast forward a day, I was using the restroom myself. My dog is very clingy and follows me everywhere. My dog began to pee on the floor, but I figured since I was currently relieving myself too, that it wouldn’t be a big deal to my father if I didn’t grab her this one time. While I was cleaning her pee off the tile, my dad caught me and blew up. He informed me that no matter WHAT I had to take her outside, even if I was in the shower or on the toilet.
A few days later, I treated myself to a bubble bath. Half way through, my puppy began to potty on the tile again. I was going to just scold her and clean it up, but I remembered my dads words. I picked her up and ran to the back door. I had to run through the living room, where my dad was gaming at the time.
When my mom got home from work, my dad started complaining how I had no decency. When I reminded him of his rule, he told me that he thought it was obvious that I should get decent before I take the dog out.
AITA?

I don’t believe this is real
Because it isn’t.
Depends on national cultures, but i suspect this was malicious compliance. Going outside naked is also a different thing depending on where it is. So soft yta esh
To train a dog to go outside, you take the dog outside before they pee, not after. Every 15-30mins or so when they’re awake for a small puppy. Even sooner if they don’t go.
I think you might need to do a bit more research on dog training.
Agreed. Why does she want the dog to potty in the crate? That should always be the one place they never use.
So much about this post seems off. If she is working and doing half days at school (which seems strange for a 15 year old, but ok) that means that no one is taking care of the dog most of the day. No wonder it’s peeing everywhere.
YTA.
Leave her outside before going in bathroom.
NTA, and excellent malicious compliance.
Ok, I’m going to give you toilet training advice, take your puppy outside every hour on lead and have a que word like toilet or something, and walk around where she likes to go in a circle. Don’t bring her inside till she’s gone.
Limit her access inside to a certain area, I don’t like puppy pads because they teach your dog to toilet inside.
If she’s in a crate she shouldnt want to toilet there because they don’t like to toilet where they sleep.
This is my method that’s always worked, if you go out, toilet her outside on lead then in the crate.
This story is nonsense.
I feel like your dad is giving mixed signals. I’m gonna say NTA for following HIS rule.
Something tells me dad wasn’t completely on board with this purchase
