AITA for shutting down over a fart?

Last night I was driving home with my girlfriend, and she asked if I farted. I answered no but she didn’t believe me. She kept on saying i was lying or joking and not taking me serious even after I told her a solid 15-20 times “No babe, I’m not joking, i’m not lying, I didn’t fart.” After that I gave up and turned off the radio because I was upset she wasn’t believing me and we sat in silence till i dropped her off. I called her today to try and explain that I was upset because she wasn’t taking me seriously and I wasn’t feeling heard but she said she thought it was crazy I acted that way over a fart and it wasn’t a big deal. I tried telling that it wasn’t the fart but the principle of her not believing me that I was upset about. I don’t know what to do next at this point.

      1. Sure, but *seriously*, **DID YOU FART?**

(NTA, yeah, it sucks not being trusted when you have done nothing to betray trust )

  1. The only explanation then is that she farted and then accused you of it. That’s some weird ass gaslighting.

  2. NTA, what is to explain? She didn’t take your answer, badgered you to the point of irritation and then lied and said you were upset over a fart.

  3. Did you fart though? You very conspicuously say you “answered” that you did not. But that is not the same thing.

This is relevant information. You can tell us dude. Safe space.

  4. ESH.

She should’ve believed you and dropped it.

You could have said, “Hey, I’m actually getting annoyed, please stop” instead of shutting down.

Perhaps agree that fart-related interrogations will not be courtroom proceedings going forward.

  5. Neither of you are assholes necessarily but I gotta say it reads to me as a bad sign for the relationship if this was enough to get upset at each other

  6. Also I’m dying at you calling her the next day to tell her you were upset she didn’t believe that you didn’t fart. That car must have been rank as hell.
