AITA for telling my family that they aren’t my family?

So a little backstory, I live in a small town in Florida and I’m stuck at home with my very very toxic family. My mothers a drunk, My second brother dgaf about me, and my eldest "brother" constantly spreads lies about me and he’s a rap!st. Thats all they ever do is spread lies about me, i hate living here. My grandparents know whats going on but just say its hard to believe me with my track record. So being abused my entire life i eventually caught up with my family and started smoking & drinking, i thought it didn’t matter because i was constantly accused of being a druggie so i thought i might as well be(I’ve never touched hardcore tho) My family has never cared for me so when i met my bestfriend who taught me what real love looked like i became happy. My bestfriend has certain family members who are known for their drug problems, exactly like my family, so my mother, brothers, grandparents, and the rest of my family call her a druggie. I’ve tried running away several times, and for a family that hates me and tells me all of the time they don’t want me there, they sure made sure i got back to their house. They don’t like me having friends, or being anywhere where they can’t make sure I’m not having fun. I’ve had several mental health crisis’s and they don’t care, they say its all an act of attention. so when my family defended the rap!st i started yelling and told them that they weren’t my family and i hated them, the first time I’ve ever said that.

  1. NTA. Blood does not make someone family. People who lie, betray, and gaslight you do not deserve that title, and it is completely fair to stand up for yourself. You deserve love, respect, and people who truly have your back.
