AITA for telling my school about kids being racist?

Hi I have been really needing to get this off my chest regardless of judgement. I 13M was reading an article about Italian brain rots in class (after I finished the work mind you) when I found people talking about the names. I was horrified when I learnt what they where referencing so I started making a doc about them. That night I sent the doc to my school warning them about the subject. I didn’t hear back from them for a few days so I assumed they didn’t read it or didn’t care. That was until they called an assembly and threatened suspension for any student referencing Italian brainrot when in school uniform (For context my school is very strict when it comes to their appearance because my countries current leader went their). After I got pulled aside by my year leader of wellbeing and she thanked me for bringing this to their attention.

I feel bad because I got a lot of my friends suspended but I also know that no one should talk like that. So AITA.

  1. absolutely NTA I’m honestly more surprised at the fact that your school cares and that you’re feeling guilty yourself. all you can do now is hope the fellow 14 suspended students will take it as a lesson. calling out racism instead of letting out fly under the radar is how change starts. don’t feel guilt over this please

  2. My first impulse was to ask what “Italian brainrot” is, but then I realized it’s probably a cognitohazard.

    1. Naw, it’s just gibberish mashups of animals and inanimate objects given dumb italian names. A monkey mixed with a banana, an airplane mixed with a crocodile. Just random mixes of stuff.

  3. NTA! Having a very limited knowledge on the Italian brain rot, I assume your classmates were using it naively and without ill intent- However, it’s always possible that they could be using it offensively and for that reason it was good to let your school know so that kids don’t feel offended by it. Don’t feel bad, you’re doing the right thing and potentially helping other kids feel less racially targeted at school!

  4. I have no idea what the nature of the italian brainrots is or what names you are referring to, but apparently it was quite bad if the school reacted this way (even if all they really care about is keeping up appearances).

    NTA, racism is shit.
