To start this I am stressed please forgive the typos I am a 21 f and I have a shitty little car My car needed an oil change a patch in a tire and coolant (antifreeze) I went to a tire shop in my little town and they fixed my tire and added coolant I was headed to a bigger town bc it was cheaper to get my oil changed there than it was in my small town On the way to the bigger town (30 miles away bc Texas sucks sometimes) and half way there my car overheated Turns out I had a leak in my coolant and I was gonna call my grandfather to come help me That’s when a tow truck pulled up by me and asked if I needed help I said “well I don’t have much money I can get my grandpa to come help me” he said he could take it to their shop and take a look at it I asked “how much would that cost” ALL he said was “your insurance will cover it if you have full coverage” I told him I did and told him what company it was he said ok He never told me how much it was gonna be if they didn’t cover it but they told me the diagnostic if I don’t get worked done is 70 but if I get work done it’s free I said yes he took me and my car to his shop never asked for me insurance details never even asked my name. But again I’m 21 and stupid so I didn’t question a thing I go to my brothers and the next morning I call them they say “your car is next in line to be looked at we’ll call you back to give the diagnostic in like an hour and 30” I said yay and hung up called them at 5pm the same day “oh he hasn’t looked at it” “ok well let me know when he does” then I hang up the next morning my older brother calls “hey my sisters car is there to be worked on have yall looked at it yet” “the mechanic has bit I haven’t talked to him yet” my brother hangs up calls at 5pm the same day he says “I haven’t been there all day but I’ll let you know as soon as I know” ok so at this point they have had my car for 2 days my brother and I go up their the next morning and no one is even there (they said they are a 24 hour shop) so he calls and they guy says “well you can’t take the car unless you pay the 350 towing fee and the diagnostic fee” he was on speaker so I said “but yall said my insurance would cover the towing” and he said “you’ll have to call them and get them to call us” my brother who has dealt car stuff before said “aren’t yall supposed to call the insurance” well come to find out they knew the company I have doesn’t cover them and told me it would and I believed them like a dumbass I didn’t even check I called my grandparents my mom and my uncle and aunt I told them what was up I had been updating them the whole time my grandparent are yelling at me for how dumb I was and said they would pay it I have my car back but they made us pay it and the diagnostic was wrong Now everyone’s mad at me for being so dumb to begin with and I can’t help but agree

You’re NTA. You were tricked by a scammer. Lesson learned, unfortunately an expensive one. Instead of yelling at you, your family should be showing some empathy.
